Hey guys,

I picked up a 1990 laser rs turbo off ebay friday with no reserve auction. I had a evo x last year that I had to sell, and a few subarus in the past as well. This is my first dsm however. I picked up the car for $1200. I noticed today the passenger side turn signal doesnt work. I cant figure out how to get at the bulb to switch it out? Also the drives side light motor works but the arm is out of the ball/cup and is just hanging there. I can get my fingers on it, and its loose. Whats the easiest way to get that back working as well? Former owner said it takes him ten seconds to fix and does it all the time. Here's a link to the car I picked up, and some pics. Thanks guys in advance, and look forward to spending a lot of time here. :hellyeah:

Its actually fwd, was the spoiler an option? I thought they all were spoilerless, I was actually thinking about adding a talon spoiler/front bumper whenever I get the car redone. The shifter has upgraded bushings with the stock shifter, but it has a real sticky gate trying to shift to third or fouth you have to muscle it over into gear anyway to fix that? Was thinking a short throw shifter might help but not sure.

The turn signal in the car does not work or the one on the outside of the car..It should just twist out when you have the signal assembly out..I'm not sure if it's the same bulb as mine or not but that's how mine comes out..

It sure couldn't hurt. Also consider changing the transmission fluid.

You have to take off the lens bezel from the front assembly to get to the amber turn signal bulb.. You take off the "pentastar" center piece first, then the lens assembly comes next.

As for the headlight motor, you'll have to take of the headlight assembly to get to that arm to reattach it to the assembly.

Give it a shot with Redline MT-90 to see if the fluid changeout will quiet things down some. Mine was the same until I did the Redline changeout 3 yrs ago when I got my Laser ...

Now, I'm curious on the build year. Look at the door sticker at the upper right to see the month and year built. Then, look at the lower left hand part of this sticker to see the "MDH" - which is month day and hour the vehicle was built which will be a six digit number.

Good luck-DSM

looks clean. yea the tranny could use a rebuilt, sounds like the 3rd and 4th syncros r going bad.
Thing is trans smooth as butter with no grind issues at all. Its just tricky shifting, and takes some effort reaching 3rd 4th or 5th. You have to muscle it to the left side of the gate if its on the right of the gate, and ifts on the left side of the gate u have to muscle it the right side for 3-5 or reverse. Its weird, you have to like second guess yourself while shifting, and do it slow and aim.

Ya works on the dash, and in the rear just not up front. Thanks

He changed back along with the new clutch, master cyl, when he did the motor back in 06. Might be time for another change. The car sat a lot, and when I test drove it I could tell like the trans was tight from sitting and basically took the whole ride home to loosen up. Shifts fine other than the stickey gate issue with not a single grind to be heard or felt.

Ok thanks Ill look into the build year for you, and I figured you would have to take the light off thanks for the insight so far. I thought the rebuild was done sooner only have 15k on the car since, but he did the trans oil, clutch back in 06 when he did the rebuild so probably could use a good change, cant hurt. Cars been sitting more than driven as well.

Checked the label in the door and the car was built march 1990 on the 21st of the month.

"The drive shafts have also been replaced..."

It's a FWD?
Did the owner mean axles? :hmm:

Great find OP, looks really clean.
Did he provide you with any paperwork at all for the build?

Hes a mechanic, and did all the work except for the motor work himself. I wasnt sure what he ment by driveshafts either?? Confused me as well

for the 3-4 shifting, you should check the shifter cable bushings to insure they are good! i know you said he upgraded them, i would check anyways! Make sure the washers are on it too, i just swapped my tranny out and forgot to put the washers back on, scared the hell out of me because i thought my new tranny was already trash but no it was just the washers!

If that doesn't help you can try to adjust the linkage!

AND that is a Sharp looking laser!!

Lasers were FWD only until the 1Gb's came out in '92 when they adopted the AWD platform with the other two makes in as well as automatic trannies for the turbo option, but by then, it was getting apparent that the Eclipse and Talon were running way ahead of the line, thus spelling curtains for the Laser to die off in mid 1994.

Too bad though, for it was the Laser that began the run for the DSM heritage for Chrysler.

He replaced the shifter base bushings, not the cables ones. The shifter cable bushings are def stock, are used and abused, and have rust all over them, and all the stuff down there. I sprayed it with some WD the other day to see if it helps. Im still going to swap it out tho. I changed shift knobs from the worn stock evo VIII one to the ams delrin one, and that seemed to help a little bit as well. Plus the car stopped surging out of the blue after playing with the idle screw, and is running ten times better now. I changed the engine oil, trans oil, fuel cleaner, and on my second tank of gas so far. Seems to be running better, and better each day.
