Well to start off with im new to the site and not all that knowledgeable about DSM's. This is my sencond eclipse after i sold the first one i vowed to myself i would never get another, but vows are ment to be broken right??

Anyways so i recently bought a 1g gsx off my friend, who bought it five years ago as a project for us, after the project went foul it sat for the last five years.. The original problem with the car was a burnt valve, After hiring a "mechanic" to take the head off and have it taken to the shop and have it fixed and then have him put it back together. which was all done the car would never run again, i know it ran before being pulled apart because i drove it back to the house. So after my buddy took it to a shop and they couldn't figure out anything with it, it just sat there until one day i decided i needed a project!!

Well i bought the car and had it towed to its current location, I replaced the plugs and wires because they were bad and brittle, I could not figure out why it would not run, so i rented a compression checker, and found there to be "0" compression on all 4 cylinders, i pulled the head and found that all the intake valves were bent. Which sucks because that head was just rebuilt from the machine shop!! the guy who put it back together timed it wrong.. Anyways i got my hands on a used head, and put it on the car, timed the car and tipple checked it, and it was running really rough, i figured out the gap on the plugs was to big so i corrected it, also i found out it was lagging really bad because the intercooler tubing was leaking. But After fixing all that good stuff the car is still running crappy, so i decided to do another compression check, and found cylinder 4 to have "0" compression??

Im not to disappointed about this because after 5 years of sitting and this being my first time actually working a dsm in this situation, and it actually starts up and runs (not good, but runs) im happy with that, if i gotta tare it down again i guess it will be easier the 2nd time,

This is my first turbo car and my first time really doing anything major like this to a Mitsubishi, I had replaced my timing belt and clutch on my 95 rs, but never taken the head off a dsm or anything in that nature. Is there some other reason why it would have "0" compression in cylinder 4, Beside bent valve or piston rings?? But even if it had bad ring on that cylinder shouldn't it read some compression? Or did my first time taring into this dsm fail horribly?,

Do you guys have any suggestion, or any input on what it might be or what i should try to do??

Sorry if this has been covered i searched the site and didnt find anything but lots of other helpful info, Also sorry for the long post!!:notgood:

Did you inspect the block before slapping the head back on? You probably would have noticed a ring bad enough to give you 0 compression. It's almost certainly a bent valve.

I have a 1990 laser that had 0 compression on cylinders 2 and 3. it turned out to be the head gasket. I would check the block and the head to see if their not warped or anything

Yes i made sure there was no signs of wear on the piston walls and made sure there was no movement in the pistons,

The block i know for sure isn't warped, the head im not to sure of as i didnt have this one resurfaced after i got it. And just assumed it was in good condition., also this is the non-turbo head, to my understanding there the same except the cams a little different. I researched it was my research wrong?/

I still got the old head, that has bent intake valves, it was resurfaced and machined and all that good stuff, And has No run time on it so i kno that one isnt warped or anything. How hard is it to put new valves in the head?

Thanks although u didn't give me the vfaq site i never knew it existed until now, i googled it and found thank you this will be very helpful, i think im just going to have the shop put in the valves though, i went ahead and took the old bent ones off my self today and found all the valve guides on the intake side were all cracked also.

well pulled the head of this morning, i didn't see any unusual spots on the head gasket, Nor did the valves look bent, i took the head to the machine shop the guys going to clean it up and take the cams off and pressure test it for free, and let me know what is wrong with it.

sweet. Its the least he could do right? :barf: After valve contact to your pistions did you replace them? Its not really going to make low compressions but run bad none the less when there is valve gashes in your pistons...

And you say there was no wear on the cyl walls. were there any oil groves in it? after some time the wall become smooth and all the oil groves go away. (not good either). now you say you know for a fact that your block is not warped? how do you know? and you need to have the heads plained no matter what, you can't just assume that a used head you bought online is going to be ok.

I would get new valve guides put in your old/newly machined head as long as it pressurizes ok, do a valve job, valve seals, get some better then stock springs in there, a good head gasket, ARP head studs and call your head good. If you could get better cams too...
Then do yourself a favor, resurface the block, re-hone the cyl walls, new bearings for rods and mains then put it back together. That way its a fresh rebuild. But thats just me. And if you really wanted a B/S removal, and balance your asmb... and on and on. :ohdamn: I guess you have to ask yourself how far you want to go. but seriously look into doing the bottom end refresh.

a bunch of stuff was done to the block in 2005 incuding the block being resurfaced, and everything was checked out ok, I myself am not trying to rebuild the motor, The car ran fine before the burnt valve in 2005, after that it has just sat, I still have not heard back from the machine shop yet, but i am not going to be pushy since he guy is doin all this for free, so im just waiting to hear back from him on it.

well got the head back from the shop on monday, and put it on tuesday, Fixed the compression problem, I was told the head had a couple semi bent valves and needed a valve job done, so when ahead and done that, put new gaskets again, head gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket.

The car starts up when i push the gas it kinda bogs like it wants to choke it self out or something, any ideas on what this could be?

I let the car run for awhile, this is only the 3rd time in 5 years the car has been started, this time i let it run warm up, i wanted to make sure noting was leaking and make sure it wasn't going to overheat or anything like that. LIke i said before im new to this, im learning from my mistakes so anything you can suggest will help alot thanks.

Side note: the second time tearing it apart and putting it back together went so much smother then the first time.

no but i will try that, didn't think much about the fuel filter, its prob been in there way more then 5 years too. Also The original owner said that they had upgraded the turbo on it, which im not too sure of it still Says TD05 on it so i was assuming they just replaced it with a new stock turbo??

So i replaced the fuel filter this morning, and the gas in it was nasty. It was still running funny though i wasn't sure if i had the vacuum lines on the TB in there right spots, so i went ahead and moved them around it made a difference on how the car was at idle..

Im not familiar at all with turbo cars i know a boost leak can make a car run like crap, had it happen on a sr20 before due to the coupler not begin tightened down,

This car feels like its lagging, i know all the SMIC tubes are tight and checked and rechecked, i shot this small video to show what the gauge is doing, not sure if this is normal or not any info would help a lot thanks.
