So recently I bought a new head because my timing belt jumped. Well today I got everything back together and when we were trying to start it it wants to like crazy but if you stop for a second then crank again it will almost run. Now I'm 100% sure the timing marks all match up perfectly I almost got all four to line up just half a tooth off on the exhaust far side. I know this head is good I did a compression test and was getting like 140. Is there anything I have to set like
CAS or ignition timing that would cause it not to start. I moved the CAS all over it got better in some spots but still wouldn't start. Btw the compression tester was 29.99 so keep that in mind too.

If you try to line all 4 timing marks up, the outer ones will be 1/2 tooth off. It's the two inner ones you are most concerned with. Soundslike your timing is good. If it wants to start, but doesn't, check your plug wires. Might have em crossed up.

I don't think the off I mean the groove on the exhaust side is in between the teeth and on te intake it is on a tooth so it would make sense why it's off a tiny bit or did I do it wrong.

I just reread your post. You have to set base ignition timing at 5* btdc. To get it close, just put the CAS bolt approximately in the middle of the slot. that will get you in a ballpark area.

IF it's off by a tiny bit than you did it wrong. You didn't roll back the exhaust cam gear when putting the belt on.

Do you think I have bent valves or should I try and do what you said. Do you mean time the cam gears then rotate the exhaust back a tooth?

This is how you check to make sure your mechanical timing is spot on. Put cylinder #1 to TDC. then put a straight edge thru the center of the cam gear bolts. Both INNER timing marks (intake at 9o'clock/exhaust at 3o'clock) should rest right on that straightedge. Don't even bother looking at the outer timing marks. They are insignificant.

O ok I'll try that tomorrow morning. Do you guys think I still bent valves it still has good compression.

Thank god. Thank you for the quick help I'll look at the cam gears tomorrow and let you guys know. Also should I use the head to help line up the marks?

Alright well timing dead on, compression is ok 145-150 and I have triple checked every sensor and everything else. I've tried grounding ignition prongs moving the biss and CAS in every position. I'm lost any help please? Also I can get it to run for 2 seconds if I spray starting fluid in the intake manifold. When I crank the motor without it just keeps trying to start like sputtering over and over. (NO BOOST LEAKS). If I stop[ and let it sit for about 5 mins or so it will go to start for a second then nothing then dead cranking then it will start to sputter again.

I would take the fuel line off the rail and pointing it away from the car and people around you, turn the key on. does it spray fuel out? this is an easy way to check your fuel pump

Yea it sprayed before I took the head off. I also tested to see if my injectors are firing and they are.

Compession test 150-150-111-150 I think I didn't time my exhaust cam right it may be racked open a tiny bit. Should it be in the relaxed position not opening valves on cyliner 2 at tdc ?

Line all the timing marks up, the cam to cam marks, and the crank to case, along with your balance shaft marks if so equiped.

If the exhaust cam was out of time, it would affect all the compression on all the cylinders.

The 111 on number 3 is low.

Now you say you checked the fuel pump and it sparys, just beacuse it pumps fuel dose not mean it is good.
You need appox 40 psi of fuel pressure, so if your fuel pump is just pushing 25psi the engine will not run.
Put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and check fuel pressure.

Do you know how to hook up a pressure tester to these cars? And when I had th lie off it was blasting fuel cus I have a 255 but I can see how it could be wrong since I didn't test it.

If I hold half throttle while cranking then let off it wants to start then too.
