96 2g dsm, auto, 113,000 miles, completely stock,
had boil over in to coolant reservoir, time for a head gasket!
ive done at least 10 of these before with no issues, but today i had a weird one,
car ran mint even with the boil over, no miss fires no weird sounds, so i did the head gasket today in 3 hours start to finish (running) after i finished i started the car and let idle for 10 minutes just like i always do, and it made no tapping or weird sounds either, i left the house to go drive it and when i was sitting at a red light i herd a tapping coming from the head, sounded like one rocker was tapping, so i revved it up and slowly let the rpm drop thinking it was a lifter then needed to be re-bleed. and i only lifted the head 10-12 inches just enough to scrape the block and head of debris, and also cleaned it with wd 40 and a shop towel, was nice and clean, but i think the scraping is what did it....
well one i got home and popped the hood it was worse then i though, there was squeaking and numerous tapping from the lifter and rockers, my thought is that when i scrapped the block with a razor blade that gasket or dirt got in to the oil gallery and clogged my lifters? so about an hour ago i ordered the revised lifters off of ebay with the tool for compressing the spring to remove the rocker and lifter, will see if that fixes it, but in the mean time any ideas??
-timing on point
-oil pump was spun and free floated to its right position
-timing belt new and tight
-balance shaft belt new and lined up
question,
1. is my problem numerous clogged lifters?
2. can i clean the oil gallery in the head with out removing it? using pipe cleaners
3. what you think is the problem?
4. issue is with oil pressure?
5. did i clog the HLA pressure regulator, if so how to clean??
i hope we have an answer so we can help future people that might have the same problem
