Winnipeg,
I apologize but I am new.
I have read the FAQ forums, but many of them confuse me.

I just got a 97 eagle talon tsi awd turbo. Everything is more or less stock. It's got quite a few things to fix on it like the struts are going, and the timing belt... and the engine has about 200 000kms.... and the turbo doesn't make a pshhh sound, it's more of a strange roar.

I'm a girl.
I've only started learning about cars since deciding to get this one. (So only about a week and a half.) I absolutely love my car however, and I want to learn more and make my baby into a beautiful machine... money allowing of course :)
I eventually want to learn how to fix my own car, but it will take time as I'm new to all this. If it's too difficult I'll probably take it to the shop, but I want to personally experience fixing the car cause it's like bonding time. It makes it more my own. I don't know what I can do by myself and what I'll need help with.

My question is, does it mater what kind of struts and timing belt I put on?
What should I do about the engine since it has 200 000 kms? Should I be looking into getting a newer used one? Can I install a non turbo one in and add a turbo kit?
Any idea what might be wrong with teh turbo?

Congratulations on choosing a dsm. They are wonderful cars when you take care of them. Dont worry about crankwalk since your a/t. I have not seen an automatic get crankwalk yet. As for your engine if you decide that you want to rebuild it. Go ahead and rebuild it. Dont worry about buying a 6 bolt u dont need it. Plus rebuilding your engine is very rewarding, a great learning experience, not to mention it makes u alot more patient. Find some knowledgable dsm owners, and have them help you out with hands on stuff. As i know alot of times that when i wanna do something but im not sure how. I have my dad or cuz's show me. Then i'll do it myself as they watch to make sure i did it right. Also Automatics that are modified are just as fast if not faster then modified 5 spds. If you need help ask anyone on here. Just to let u know i own a automatic 96 eclipse gst that my dad and i have done alot of work on. Good Luck. Welcome to the world of DSM's!!! Andrew
