im planning on upgrading my whole exhaust system from intake and exhaust manifold, header, cat-back system. i just wanted to know what would be the best setup as far as getting a catback system or doing a custom setup. i dont know alot about these things but which brand would be better or would it be a mixture of brands? i was looking into the Megan catback and header since i dont have that much cash. What would you guys recomend? does anybody have that Megan catback and header setup? if so what would you rate it? thank you.

Honestly dude, im not telling you what to buy with your hard earned money, but you can achieve the same or better sound out of just a cat back. Take my word for it i just have a cat back with all stock everything else and people always think i have a full setup. In my opinion, Just do your research and choose a cat back, then drop the rest of the cash into something else. For the price of borla with an entire setup, you could begin to build your own turbo setup and have a good catback.

I've been looking for a new exhaust as well. Ebay has a lot of options, most of them are cat-back systems. The magnaflo is one of the most expensive systems. but you get what you pay for. Ebay has systems all the way down to $100. They also have intakes, headers, fuel rails, etc... It just depends on how much you want to spend.

I have the Megan catback and Megan header. I bought the header just to clean up the look of the engine bay because it doesn't really do much for performance. The exhaust I bought for sound and a little increase in perfoance. I think all 420as sound like crap when revved no matter what exhaust you have but I like the sound of my Megan catback under load. It has a nice deep tone. Onething to watch out for is that it might rub on the trunk area. Mine did so I rerouted the axelback portion under the cross member. If you don't want to do that you can put a piece of dynomat inbetween the piping and the trunk to stop the rattling noise from the rubbing.

Hope that helped.

95 96 97 98 99 MIT ECLIPSE N/T RS GS CATBACK EXHAUST : eBay Motors (item 180491245128 end time May-07-10 14:18:13 PDT)

I picked this up last winter, and just installed it about 2 weeks ago. It fit perfectly and it sounds amazing. There is absolutely no rasp to it. I only put on because my old stock exhaust rusted out so I still have the stock header and cat on there. $139.99 *SHIPPED* is one hell of a deal for 3" mandrel bent stainless. All of the mounting points are welded on there, and you use the stock rubber hangers to hang it. I would definitely recommend this one.

thanks for all the recomendations. i actually thought that you would get performance out of catback exhaust but it looks more like people get them for the sound. in that case ill just get the cheap ones instead of the $600 dollar ones.

I running a gst cat-back(junk yard) and some cheap ebay header thats is about as cheap as you can get, it will be about the same gains as the name brands systems. and i love the way the gst exhaust sounds on the 420a. it's more in the lower frequency range, plus no rice look and sound!!! if you want you can take out your catalytic converter and remove all the material in side or just get a test pipe. but your exhaust will sound a lot louder if you do.

ps. it cost me less then $90 for my system:tease:

Most people comment on the sound versus any power gains, because frankly the gains wont be noticeable no matter how much you spend. So the only really noticeable thing is how each one sounds. Bolt-on N/A mods aren't going to to a whole hell of a lot in terms of massive power gain.

If I did gain any power from the cat-back I sure as heck didn't notice it LOL

im personally still indecisive on whether to buy a header or not due to mixed feelings from other 420a owners but as for catback i bought a tsudo Universal muffler(2.5 inlet and 4.5 inch wide tip) and went to a muffler shop and had them custom build me a catback exhaust with 2.5 inch pipping and reroute it under the rear cross member to give me the up and out look that GSX's and STI's have. The muffler cost me $70 and the custom pipping and labor cost me $165 so $235 total. but if you just want a bolt on catback just go on ebay and you can get some for as cheap as $100 shipped and you could possibly do it in your driveway on a weekend. ive had 2 cheaper exhausts on my car and both sounded deep and i loved it. many people thought it was highly modified.

ill probably do header and test pipe later on.(just have catback exhaust and AEM short ram intake right now and no big difference yet)

The only reason i even suggested cat back was because for the money, you have have better performance elsewhere. An ebay catback is decent, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, and for the price you can put the rest toward a turbo, or 1 get a udp, 2 upgrade the tb and port the intake, and 3 get an ebay cai, youll see better performance out of that. But turbo is the biggest bang for your buck and you can build your own kit for about a grand. If your not the turbo type or whatever though just do your research, theres way bigger power gains for your money than full exhaust.
