I'm putting a new clutch in my eclipse tomorrow and just curious on any tips hints tricks anything i should know before i start pulling the transmission out its a sealed until pressure plate clutch flywheel and a new release bearing I'm asking now so i don't get half way through and find out i need something special

Put a couple washers under the pivot ball to shim it a bit. The pivot ball and fork wear over time and if you throw it back together without shimming the ball you may may not have enough adjustment to get the clutch to disenguage properly.

if its a one solid unit "modular" clutch/flywheel/pressure plate do i need an alignment tool? or will everything go together just fine?

You'll need an alignment tool, they're cheap and you can get one at autozone. I recommend just 1 small washer under the pivot ball, it doesn't take much, ask me how I know LOL.

Break the axle-hub bolts loose while the car is on the ground, get a big breaker bar and a long piece of pipe to put on it. Drain the trans fluid next and start working from the top of the car while that's draining. Be patient and if something's in the way or making it harder (like the radiator might) take it out instead of fighting your way around it.

EDIT: I've actually never heard of one solid unit for the clutch, so idk about the clutch alignment tool.

Get your flywheel machined for a clean surface for the new disk. New clutch fork pivit ball and clutch fork should be replace if they are old.

On the 420a The clutch and fly wheel are modular. The clutch disc, fly wheel and pressure plate are one unit so you don't have to resurface the fly wheel, you get a new one every time you replace the clutch.

^^^^ So do I still need the alignment tool? The autozone around here..worthless

this is my first time doing one on an eclipse.. stupid question...wheres the transmission drain bolt?

So how do you bolt it up if the clutch and pressure plate are already on? I've always wondered this as I don't have an N/T to poke around in to find out.

The 420a has a thing like the flex plate in an auto trans, its a big plate with the starter gear. The flex plate is bolted to the crank and you just bolt the clutch assembly to the flex plate.

thanks for the help and were about it the drain bolt located this is my first time changing out a clutch on an eclipse
