I just had a shop put in a sbr 3500 clutch and a rps 9.5 lb flywheel. I am now hearing a lot of drivetrain growling when letting off the gas or decelerating. they put it up on a lift and there is a little up and down movement of the driveshaft and a bit of in and out movement from the transfer case. I here most of the noise near the rear differential. And where the transfer case is sometimes I feel it vibrate in the car. I took it on the highway and the steering wheel vibrated really bad. All of these things happened after the install. Please help. the shop say that the links in my driveshaft are probably bad but it was fine before they messed with it

carrier bearings can also cause this problem. this is that wiggle you feel in the drive shaft. its supposed to have a litte wiggle but not much....

True, but I beleive this problem started after a clutch job and wasn't present beforehand.

The difference in mass of the new flywheel can cause noises to 'appear' that were always there. They were just dampened out before.

sorry didnt read all of that. ask the mechanic if he used loc tight on the flywheel bolts. it would definetly not be good if they started backing out...

everything is fine on the acceleration end but it is just the letting off the gas and the deceleration end. It shifts fine also. could it still be a loose flywheel or pressure plate?

I figured out that when I engage the clutch while the drivetrain growl is happening it stops. It has got to be the driveshaft making the rear diff make a ton of noise right?

Read this thread. It's not uncommon when installing an unbalanced lightweight flywheel/clutch combo.

Agreed. Is it going to blow something up? Probably not. But balancing the clutch and flywheel together is probably going to solve the problem. Usually during a clutch job, I take the flywheel to a machine shop to be stepped. This is the ideal time to have them balance the assembly together. Remember, these do not always come perfectly stepped from the factory. So, if you didn't have this done before, pull out the clutch/flywheel, have it stepped, and at the same time, have the whole unit balanced.
