Hello I just got a new car alarm and I was wondering is a relay needed? Or can I just use one that I already have? The car already had a old door locking system in it and I just replaced it

Here is a pretty common diagram of most door lock relays

Sorry I can't speak specifically to our cars so I don't know if this extra 85 pin is there for you or not. But start by hunting down the cars relays and checking them out. If they look like the above ones then I think you should have it from there.

You do not need any relays.

When you say the car already had a door locking system, you mean it was an aftermarket system? If so, all you have to do is hook up your lock and unlock wires (usually blue and green on most aftermarket alarms, just like 100hpgsx's diagram) to the same lock and unlock wires. If you mean it had a keyless entry system from the factory, you will have to track down the vehicle's factory lock/unlock wires. Found this wire info on another forum that should help (it's for a 95, but everything is the same for a 98 except tach, hoodpin, and driver window):

12v: white positive at ignition harness
ignition: black/white positive at ignition harness
accessory: blue/black positive at ignition harness
starter: black/red positive at ignition harness
tach: blue/black AC at coil pack (2cyl signal)
lock: brown/white negative at relays in center

/yellow negative in driver's kick panel
factory disarm: green/white negative in driver's kick panel
brakeswitch: green positive at switch above brake pedal
parking lights: green/white positive in driver's kick panel
hand brake: yellow/black negative at handbrake or behind instument cluster
horn: green/red negative at steering column
driver window up: green/red reverse polaritiy at main window switch
driver window down: green/blue reverse polarity at main window switch
passenger window up: brown/yellow reverse polarity at main window switch
passenger window down: green/yellow reverse polarity at main window switch
headlights: red negative at light switch harness
reverse lights: red/blue positive in driver's kick panel
dimmer: green/white positive at dimmer switch harness
key sense: green positive at ignition harness

Also, it does not make a difference if it's a keyless entry system or an alarm w/ keyless entry...basically an alarm just includes a siren, shock sensor, and door trigger wires to make the alarm go off when a door is opened.

OK thanks what I mean as in my car use to have one is it had alarm light that blinks and it still had the device that locks and unlocks the door but that's it. The brain of the alarm is not there and it only had a red and blue wire for the door device's I think so I replaced it with one that has a green wire and blue I think that went all the way to the other door that has 5 wires (black, white blue, green and brown,) I can see that under the drivers wheel some wires has tape on them. A lot of videos I watched used relay's but I am stuck on how to set up the relays and over all I'm beyond confused I would spend all day trying to get it right .I can post pics of everything if someone can give me step by step instructions
