new and need tranny help asap

hey guys just joined. I picked up a 91 turbo laser the other day off a trade for a civic. The laser i was told needed the other tranny put in to drive. OK cool, it even came with a tranny. After getting ready to drop the tranny I found this, (see pics) The shifter only goes foward and back. No side to side so Im assuming it stuck in 3-4. When the you shift back it bends the cable to the right not going into gear. BUT when I decided kinda dumb with the car running and taping it back and forth the tranny does grind making me wonder its trying to go. So to the point. Do i try just switching out the cables or go ahead and drop the trannt and put in the new one? Also the clutch pedal dosnt come back up its has no presser just lays on floor

I would disconnect the cables from the tranny and see if the shifter moves freely if it does probably bad tranny

As for the clutch check the fluid level in the master cylinder for the clutch as well as making sure the line from the master cylinder for the clutch to the slave cylinder isn't leaking or broken.

seem like good places to start.

those cables are broke... i had the same problem your going to need to get new cables anyways so i would try buying and replacing them and see what happens before you swap a possibly perfect tranny... also try bleeding and adjusting your clutch...

ok so took the cables off tranny deff has issue's going into gear. So i think the tranny started having problems and thats how the cable broke. Thanks guys.

a tranny with issues will not break those cables ... i have only broke them when i pulled the motor and i did not undo the cable from the tranny and when i was trying to get the motor out it broke the cables... did the guy before you pull the motor?

no idea it was a 16 kid who i take it didnt know much about the car. The cable it's self inst really broke just the lil rubber case that holds it to the braket. But ya the tranny lever wont move at all

As for your clutch problem, fill it with fluid, have someone work the pedal and check the slave cylinder, you can easily see it when your laying on the ground in front of the car, it's right on the bell housing. Pick up a Haynes or similar manual for the car also, you'll find it useful, trust me.

well i got ahold of the kid he said he put in a new clutch and flywheel so Im asumgin thats when the cable was broke. Ya im thinking the clutch lines have air in them. The slave cylinder on the front of tranny dosnt move when the clutch is pushed down. Lol i picked up a haynes for it like 2 days before I got the car thinking i just needed to drop the tranny. I think I got most of the problems sorted out

ok so i was told worng looked at the title its a 90 so I need 90 cables no 92+ cables right?

yeha 90 only i dont think 91 will even work, and i know for sure 100% 92+ wont work i have about 5 sets of shifters in my yard...

longs story dont ask...

ya from what I read i think the first group of 91 i think will work but later 91s dont. Ill look for 90s to be safe

ya ill get some with a better camera . The car is currently what looks like spray can black with a crapy white strip . It was orginal a blue color which Ill paint it back to. It needs work but I paid 300 for the civic I tarded for it so I think I got a better deal, Now ne1 have a extra set of 90 cables
