New 6 bolt, loads of problems

So I finally got my car back after 5 months of Firestone (NEVER GO TO THEM) putting the motor in. Well, the motor has some problems I think. Let's list em.

-When I put the car in neutral to come to a stop, I hear metal grinding (changes with speed) from the trans. I think this is the flywheel I bought (was a used 6 bolt w/56k miles). I'm probably going to get an aftermarket one pretty soon (within the week), think this will cure it?

-Came home, the car is hard to put into gear. When it goes into gear, the shakes quite violently and then sounds like it clunks into gear. Again, probably the flywheel.

-When on the highway, it randomly will make noises that sound like "psst" and slow down a lil (no, its not my BOV).

-Grinds when it starts. Might be because its cold outside, but when it started the idle was about 1000 rpm. Once I started moving, it would drop to the normal 500-700ish when I came to a stop. Also about the grinding, I replaced the starter, still did it, got another starter, still did it. Again, I think its the flywheel.

-Car does not seem to have any power it use to. Might be a boost leak, not exactly sure. I have to get a boost guage to see if its still running the same boost. Could it be the timing from the 6 bolt head? They didn't transfer ANY parts from my 2nd gen motor to this, thats why I'm wondering if I should get the head and anything else off my old motor.

I'll post more as I find them... gotta move the car into the garage now (the car wouldn't get back into gear when I pulled into the driveway... 1st or reverse. Worked the whole way home though. )

A friend of Mine has a '93 that we had a crapload of flywheel problems, and the bolts kept either coming out, or breaking. Not sure if this is the case, but sounds EXACTLY like the symptoms it had.

Well, no boost leaks... bu the car won't start now. I hear the flywheel grinding and it tries to but won't. I've gotten it started by pumping the gas, but then it just drops the RPM's down real low and dies... ::sigh:: Anybody have a writeup of how to change a flywheel?

If you determine that the flywheel is the culprit, you'll want to seek a write-up on how to remove your transmission as that is the necessary step before removal of the flywheel. Once the transmission is off, it will be 6 bolts (in your case) to remove the flywheel.

I'm almost positive it is the problem. Now it doesnt start at all, I can't get it to turn over and die. It will try and start, grind for a while, then you don't hear the grinding, just the starter (sounds like a fan running). Usually only cranks about 1-2 times and then it must disengage.

I at first thought it was the firing order, because I remember reading something about having to change 1&4 and 2&3 if you used the 1g CAS. But, I am using the 1g CAS, coil pack, head, and 2g ECU. It started fine this morning though, I replaced the plugs and put them in the wrong order. Then, I rewired them like this.

And it still didn't work. Tried that and switch 1&4/2&3. No dice, still doesn't sit there and crank. So, if anyone has any ideas what it could be I'm open for ideas. Just as a reminder, this is a brand new starter, so thats not the reason. Unless my dad ordered one for an auto instead of a manual... but it wouldn't of started today, would it?

Well, I'm going to be ordering a new flywheel it looks like pretty soon. I'm 99% positive that is what is wrong. The original grinding, and now this. Tomorrow I'll have my friend push the car up the driveway while I try to start it, see if it'll catch the other teeth. I might have binded it where its at because, the more I try to start it, the less it grinds and the faster it just sits there spinning.... kinda like its not even on the flywheel anymore. I'll keep everyone updated on the condition tomorrow.
