Neons a threat??

I just read everyones post about N/A Eclipse's pulling on Stangs and other V8's, gotta say that I doesn't sound possible. I too own a 98 Eclipse RS, has some stuff, you know, the basics...and I've pulled my share of stangs, but that's becuase of the 75 shot of NOS. Without the bottle, I was getting my ass beatin daily...that's of course running against V8's, not any V6, those are a hella lot slower. But after I got that NOS kit installed, those V8 are fun to beat, but I gotta say that I did loose to one Mustang, I don't know what he had but it hurt. My face was like OMG But that was one outta 10. But hey, that doesn't mean they didn't beat V8's, it's just a little hard to believe, that's all.
 
There are TONS and TONS of old IROC's around, not all of them are good shape. I have raced TONS of old f-bodies and beaten a lot of them even the day I got the car. I have friends with modified f-bodies that would blow the living sh't out of me and there are those mullet guys with the old IROC's with rust and bald tires that I beat quite often. I'm sure IROC's did run 14's back in the 80's but it is 2003 now and our cars might just be in better shape. Bring our car back to the 80's and I'm sure we would get smoked by all the IROC's rolling off the showroom floor.
 
hey guys, im not saying i can always beat mustangs or IROC's all the time, im just saying that our eclipses shouldnt beat underestimated. Besides, it is way more fun to race eclipse v. eclipse to see who has the better car. I have a big race coming up on fri actually vs a friend's eclipse, it better not rain!

Hey I was skeptical of what they were saying at first too but tonight I was cruising around and I ran into a 5.0 with a nice rusted body, door that was like half open cuz it looked like the wrong size door for the car and an exhaust dragging on the street... he pulled up beside me and floored it and I pulled ahead of him... I go with what EvuLFleA said it all depends on what condition the vehicle is in I know if that 5.0 woulda been in a garage it's whole life and had 30,000 miles on it he would have smoked me but It was and old rusty peice of sh!t. Some of it is also the driver too..
 
FYI, the SRT-4 does have a 420a block, its the same one that is in the old stratus and other cloud cars, the same block that the neon boys have been putting in their cars for quite some time. This 420a just happens to have .4L more displacement than ours
 
guys you can be beating IROC's but the 305 auto's... they are horrible! They only put out 170hp!
My g/f raced on in her moms hyundai sonata and beat it! Yes he was racing.

But I owned a Mustang GT convertible 5 spd. First time to the track not even so much as an oil change ran a 14.86 at 96mph. Did a tuneup new plugs wires cap rotor pcv oil oil filter fuel filter cold air intake and an electric cooling fan. Ran a 14.42 at 98mph. Sorry I have driven an N/A eclipse 5 spd and am picking up an N/A Talon auto here soon. But there is no way in hell a non turbo would keep up with me. I took out a few of the GST's and 2 GSX's (though they killed me off the line)
I dont see how any of you with minimal mods could even consider keeping up. This was a fully loaded power everything Mustang GT with 2.73 gears and practically stock everything. By the way IROC's did come with 5 spd's but only the 305's. The 350's were stuck with auto's which slowed them down. As a rule the 350 only see very high 14's and low 15's stock. But they do like mods. So I dont see how some of you are beating these cars. Nitrous? Ok well that may be enough with a 75 shot if you dont get paired with a good driver. If it is an auto in either of these cars I do believe you will probably show them some tail lights. Dont get me wrong I like these talons and Eclipses. Plus I will be puttign a 4g63 into my Cordia over the summer most likely. So dont think I am a muscle head. I just dont see how you guys are beating these cars.
 
no the 305 iroc put out 215 hp. the 82-84 z-28 with crossfire injection only put out 170 hp.

this whole condition of the car thing is lame. I mean come on, I could post a thread about raping a viper, Ill just forget to tell everyone that he had melted 7 pistons with the n2o he was using. The point Im trying to make is that if some posts a thread about beating a car we all are going to think that it was in racing condition. If thats not the case then make sure you let everyone know that the fixed up 5.0 you were racing was being towed.
 
If you wanna beat a mustang race a v-6 they are slower than most of us if you have any decent mods and they are stock... 70's v-6 mustangs are slower than civics my friend can even take them in his non vtec haha (mustang II v6=103hp)
 
jason you talk to much crap, 5.0's and iroc's aren't crap, i had an '86 T/A, 350, 5speed, and most cars would smoke it, i dunno where you pulled those hp/torque figured from, or those 1/4 mile times, but keep diggin and you might get ur head out of your ass. v-8's have power sure, but they're heavy, and when you take the age into consideration, they aren't going to run stock times, because of wear and tear....my '86 T/A ran 19second 1/4's and it was all stock...
 
uumm.... your T/A ran a 19 second pass with a 350 v8 and a 5spd? Man you must suck at driving!!!
Even my 2.3 88hp auto stang ran an 18.2 at 74.... but my bone stock 89 5.0 5 spd convertible ran a first pass of 14.8 and after tuneup and #### ran a 14.4....... Someone break out the shovel it is getting pretty deep in here.... OMG past my knee's now... OMG :barf:

Also to my knowledge the 350 never came with a 5 spd in that body style... however the 305 did..... Both the 305 and 350 look more or less the same.....

hey everybody check this link out if you wanna see where i got the stats on the iroc and the 5.0.
al010101-you must suck at driving if you had a 5-spd and only turned out a 19 sec 1/4. my 87 iroc with 160k on it with minor mods turned out a 14.23 1/4 and that was an automatic transmission. stop talking crap and check out the link if you wanna see where i got the stats from. do your research if you wanna try flaming somebody...that way you don't sound like a jacka$$
 
Hey those of you who think it's impossible to beat a car such as an IROC I'm not trying to argue or anything but IMO it's not... I was out tonight and I raced a car that to me looked like a real IROC, it had IROC on the side and Z-28 on the side also... We raced from a dead stop and i was ahead of him untill about 50mph when he started gaining on me.... I am not lieing to make myself sound good or anything I'm just stating the truth... Last night I raced my friends stock 240SX and he had me by a few carlenghts... those things are FAST.
 
The thing about V8's is they pull a heck of a lot more than our cars after 3rd. V8's pull better at higher speeds. I test drove a 2003 Mustang GT 5-spd. My talon would have gained a car length in first, almost a car length in second, and I would be looking at the mustangs licence plate in third.

Thank you thank you thank you. My T/A is a perfect example of this, it has the best engine, 350 TPI, (there were about 5 different v8s available and 2 v6s in the 82-92 bodystyle ranging from the pathetic 150hp carbed 305 to the 245hp EFI 350) in 89 it was good for 240 hp and 340 ft/lb. From the factory this motor and the 305 TPI(Tuned Port Injection) w/ 5 speed were just about even. They should run mid to high 14s stock, mine ran a best of 15.9 and then a string of low 16s. Turns out the MAF sensor was slowly going bad and not setting a code, and at least 2 injectors were sticking. I don't have any times yet, as all the tracks are closed for the winter, but I should in the 14s next spring.

I just got the Eclipse, so I have no idea what times it runs, and the power delivery is so different that I really cannot guess at one. Since it is all stock to my knowledge I'm betting its gonna be a slow trip down the 1/4.

well if that's the case then don't say i beat an iroc or a 5.0 and leave it at that. say it was a piece and wasn't running on all 8, or you might metion that it was being towed or might even be on jacks. any 5.0 or iroc that is is in any kind of running order will smoke any n/a dsm.

Maby you want to say any STOCK N/A Dsm because I know there are all motor DSM's out there that would take a stock IROC 305 automatic... the one with like 170hp.
 
there was never an iroc that had 170 hp. all the 305 irocs had 210+ hp. the only camaro with a v-8 that was putting out 170hp was the 82-84 z28 with crossfire injection. even the regular camaro and berlinetta from those years were putting out 180 hp. keep trying...
plus a decently modded n/a dsm will only run in the mid to low 15's. an iroc or 5.0 in decent shape stock, will run high 14's.

Careful what you say, we are sharing the same motor as a neon, other than the reverse head.
 
There were RS camaro's equipped with the LO3 305 which only made 170hp and you could get those from like 86-92 in the RS's... and the best they would run is like mid 16's..... ouch....
