i was searching on 2gnt today and actually saw a discussion about how Hahn used a Neon SOHC tranny in there eclipse after they blew the stock tranny. try searching over there to see what year it was and whatever else you need. :thumb:

Will my tranny fit a neon? I have a non turbo 95 standard tranny that my friend wants for his neon. His neon im not sure is probably around the same year. Are they the same? Thanks

Unless his Neon has a 4G63 instead of a 420A, I would say no its not going to fit.

Ok to make a long story short i need a trans for my 420a eclipse non turbo with a turbo..i heard the 2.0l neon trans will bolt up..is the true and if so is there any differences whatsoever..i really need a trans bad so if anybody knows itd really help or if anyone is selling one let me know...thanks

I don't know, but here is a resource for used transmissions, engines, etc..

You could search under the neon and see if it cross matches.

http://www.car-part.com/

It's a search tool that's connected to most salvage placeds throught the USA.

Happy hunting!

Come back to this post when you have completed and let the rest know what you found, what you did, and the results.

The tranny will probably bolt up, but I would HIGHLY doubt the gearing is anywhere near the same.....

I'm thinking about doing this as well.

Since the junkyard is filled with neons as far as the eye can see, but dang if I'll EVER see a 2g in it.. So, I want a manual from a Neon..

I've searched everywhere and I can't seem to find a list of what i'd need if it's even possible. I've foind lists about what i'll need if i'm swaping in a manual from another DSM, but not a neon..

God this cars getting me depressed. LOL

The link Paul posted should answer all your questions, I am also planning on doing this in the future, was going to do it this past month but the money and time just wasnt available

That article assumes you have a tranny from a DSM avail.. ( I think)

What I wanna do is take the Manual tranny from a Neon and swap it into a Auto 2nd Gen.. :)

The article assumes you already have a M/T tranny in your car. The bellhousings between our cars and Neons have different clutch actuation systems (cable vs. hydraulic), so you'd need to swap bellhousings to retain the hydraulic system.

Since you don't have an Eclipse M/T on hand, you could take most of the parts from the clutch assembly on the Neon and make yours a cable actuated system. You could also find a tranny from a 2001+ base model Neon; they have hydraulic clutches.

Nice! thanks a ton.

Now I wonder if I could use the linkage from the tranny to the shifter too.. :)

I see my writeup is getting used well...LOL

Yes i wrote that assuming you have a MTX already.

Kepp in mind guys, the 3.55 trans is very slow if your not turbo. It was designed for a much lighter car. The idea of the 3.55 is to place more load on the motor to make an effort to reduce so much torque when your turbo spools. The intention is to install a 3.55 when you reach the 15psi marker. At 15psi I still spin in 3rd gear although i hook up faster than i did with my 3.94.

If you do not have a MTX car, you should look for a neon with a Hydraulic clutch. Then the trans will just swap over with the 2GNT brackets. Keep in mind the SRT-4 trans will not even fit in our cars. Nor will its quaife fit in our trannys.

Ok, I have read that you can use some neon tranny's on our 420a's.
But what all info do I need to know about the neon in order to tell if it will work on my 1995 GS. I cannot find a eclipse tranny in the state, so I am forced to look at my other options. Any and all info will be appreciated , I found a guy on craigslist, selling a 95 neon 5 speed really cheap, and I want to know if I can use it!?.............

You would have to switch the bellhousing or half case on the neon trans from a cable clutch to a hydraulic clutch. If I remember right dodge switched the neon from a cable clutch to a hydraulic clutch in 2000 or 2001, and those will replace transmissions in the non turbo 95-99 eclipse's and talons without having to switch the half cases.

The only other difference in the neon transmissions is the final gear, most have a shorter final drive, do a search for nv-t350 and you will find the gear ratios and what year and model they were installed in. The search will result in every car this transmission has been used in.

So, as long as I change over the bellhousing, the neon trannsmission will work fine right?...
I'm not too worried about ratio's, I just want to get my car on the road for the summer. (In Alaska summer is very short)

All so does anyone have a link to an exploded view of a neon transmission?..
