Negative effects of A/C remival??

I want to remove the A/C belt on my car...besides destroying resale value and losing A/C, are there any other negative effects?

Will my heater/defroster still all function properly??
I heard that part of the pully on the crank can be removed too, is this possible/wise??
Can I just cut the belt for now and then remove other parts of it later??


I really want to know, I plan on doing this today

yeha if you take off the belt it wont spin the compressor for the ac unit. You will have heat and a blower still but no AC....opther htan that....you should see a slight increase in performance due to a less amount of rotational mass that your engine has to run....but hten again you might not...I cherish my ac and will never let it go.

Because your ac uses a clutched pully the gains will be very minimal (just the idle pully and part of the ac pully act any differently.

The reason people pull the AC is to loose the weight (like 50+ pounds).

Yep, because it's on a clutch, removing the belt won't really do a lot for you. The pulley itself weighs nothing, I have one sitting right here. You're better off just keeping it in there unless you ditch the whole system for the weight savings.

Why are you doing this anyway? Another reason people remove their AC is for more airflow to the radiator after fmic install which doesn't apply to you. Just exercise and lose 50 lbs and keep your AC.

The defrost sucks on rainy days without the ac system. The ac compressor engages when you use the defrost. This is to dry the air before blowing it on your glass. I have found on rainy days, the side glass doesnt defrost well. But it was worth the weight savings to me and it also helps engine water temps since I have a fmic also.

I agree with the person who said there is a decrease in defrosting ability.

The only reason I pulled my AC out was due to the fact it was going to cost 600 to repair.

Including the condenser, evaporator, all lines, compressor, pully, bracket, etc....

I think the total is higher than 40 but I could be wrong. It totally depends on how much you are willing to tear into the car.

Take a look at your sight glass (probably up behind the battery, just in front of the cowl) and see how badly you're pumping bubbles. It may be re-charge time.
