Ok so here's the deal. Turns out my stock T-25 seals are going, which is a bad thing but also gives me a reason to possibly get a better turbo.

I just need something that will be good for every day driving that will have some kick to shut up those annoying ricers from time to time. I've been looking into the 16g turbos, and from what I gathered it looks like a small 16g would suit me fine. I hear the Big 16g's lag a little. I would like something that could get me to 350HP later down the road.

The major thing I just want something I can easily bolt-on and go with no other mods. My car is mainly stock with a 1g BOV, and a aftermarket short-ram intake. The other question I had, I know that you need a J pipe for the 16g and a couple of engine pics I saw that the J pipe barely fit over the intake, should this be a concern?

What do you guys think? Should I just get another T-25 or go ahead and take this oppurtunity to go for a 16g? And are the 16g really bolt-on an go without any other mods?(Excluding J-Pipe)

I read up that the Big 16g is usually fine with the stock fuel system with recommendations of upgrading the fuel pump, is this the same with the small 16g? Or could I use my stock fuel pump with it?

I don't have much money and don't need anything extreme.

Go with a big T28, it will suit your needs and it's a direct bolt on and looks completely stock, no j-pipe or kit needed. I have a similar set up to you and just got one put on a few days ago because my T25 died and I didn't want anything extreme either, it fully spools at around 3200-3400 and holds well all the way to redline unlike the T25.

MHI 16G big or small would be the best bang for the buck. Personally, I would only consider the Big 16G. This gives you the right amount of power, and always has a little left over if you ever decide to crank up the boost. Wit the right supporting mods of course. T28 would be ok as well, but the 16gs are all over, and a dime a dozen.

Good luck!

The T28 turbo itself costs more than a 16g turbo but when you include the cost of the kit you will need for a 2g install the 16g would have cost me 40 bucks more. Now the reason why I went with a T28 over a 16g is because I don't want any hassle from the cops or some over zealous right wing smog check guy (like I said it looks completely stock) and I don't plan on taking it to the track, I'm not looking for extreme HP, just something better than stock and the T28 performs noticably better than a T25.

A new small 16g will cost you less than a new t28 including the parts for install. Get the j-pipe, lines in the classifieds. You will need to find a way to get the jpipe to couple to the 2g lower intercooler piping.

So it looks like I am leaning more towards a small 16g. Will my stock fuel system be ok with it, without upgrading my fuel pump and such? And how would I find a way to get the jpipe to couple with the lower intercooling piping?

But isn't the Big 16g less efficient and have lag issues without supporting mods?

Yes, and that played a big factor into why I went with a Big T28. Without all the supporting mods (which I don't have and probably will never go all out like that), keeping it around or under 15psi the T28 will be the better choice. If you have plans on eventually getting all those supporting mods then get a 16g.

"A new small 16g will cost you less than a new t28 including the parts for install."

This is true, I forgot to mention I was comparing a big T28 to a big 16g, but the price difference is between a big T28 and a small 16g was only 30 bucks.

Go with the evo 3 16g, if you are worrying about lag than you should not be owning a turbo car, and it will easily reach your goals. But you will need to do the same mods to reach the goal you want, which would be the same as on any other turbo. The evo 3 is the same price as the big 16g and more efficient, and I believe the small 16g is similar in price, so buying a big 16g or small would be a waste of money in my eyes.

I don't want any hassle from the cops or some over zealous right wing smog check guy (like I said it looks completely stock)

HaHa, This is because you live in worst possibly state to own a nice car, California. Just about every other State, or place on Earth isn't as bad as California when it comes to rules about having a pinhole in your muffler.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting an actual MHI turbo. The quality is there so you know it will last. Again props to the 16G. I also got to thinking, if you see a 14b at the right price, you could grab one of those as well. You will still need a J-pipe and need to tweak some things, but that is also a few steps above the t25.

STAY AWAY FROM EBAY TURBOS!!
no matter what you read... buy once, instead of drive once. <-- just made that up:sneaky:

Ok, no e-bay turbos. Buy once, instead of drive once...LOL I like that. So now I am caught between a small 16g or a Evo 3 16g.

Edit: Do you need any mods to support the Evo 3 16g? Or again, is it alright to run with a complete stock fuel system?

+1 for a 14b. Used with good shaftplay.

You can save the money you pay for a 16g: get a used 14b and have money left over to get the most out of it. The 14b is a 300whp turbo. Get a supra smic (or ebay FMIC if you can get it topass a visual inspection?), used 550s and safc, walbro 190.

What are your goals?
