Wondering what step 12 is:

"Remove the under cover"

Then Step 14:

Remove both driveaxle assemblies

Can I get some input on what y'all used to take out the driveaxles?

Next, "Remove any remaining chassis or suspension components which will interfere with transaxle removal"

What exactly?

Ok what i did... I use a little wood chissel and a small hammer to pop out the pass. side axle. Careful to not damage the little seal there. Next the driver side pops out on removal. Make sure you unbolt it from the block so the axle can fall freely . There is like a swing are that goes onto the block that supports it. ***Well before you pop the axle, take off all the suspension from the "car" side of the pass. side and pull it up and out of your way. I use a lawn chair to support it. Then your axle can be popped. This prevents the axle from acutally being pulled from the spindal because you pulled everything out in tact. Anymore questions pm me or post ill check up on it. I have had to do 4 in a year. 2g record for me out and in is 9 hours LOL. This might be alittle diff because you have a 1g

undercover probaly means the spash gaurd.

Is the bell housing heavy? That's the main thing I'm worried about. I'm going to have it supported with a floor jack and have the engine supported under the oil pan with a piece of wood and a regular jack. I'm afraid the tranny is gonna wobble off the floor jack and either hit me or the concrete and crack.

Ok when you pull it have the trans supported by the jack and the oil pan like you said. When you are ready to take it out slowly lower the two together until the top mount on the tranny is clear of the body. **Use wood for both jacks**. It would of been alot easier with a trans jack but you can make due. Make sure the "trans jack" you are using is in the position to roll away from the engine. Have someone support it from the top and you are on the side having control of the trans and sliding it off. When it does release from the int shaft it will get wobbly so make sure you have control of it!! LOL. Slowly let the jack down and then if you can pull it out. It might be too high to pull it out so have someone pick it up from the top of the car and slide the jack out from under it. The stronger person do this so it doesn't slam the pavement.(This only happens sometime when i don't get the car high enough). any more questions let me know

No it isn't that heavy. It is aluminum i can pick it up pretty easily. When i put it in i put it in my lap and scoot up to it and throw it in. That ussualy happens when everyone that is helping is dumb and don't want to help so i say #### it LOL)

Thanks Viper for the tips.

I haven't reached that far yet, I'm getting myself prepared. Right now I'm taking the driveaxles off, but having a hard time taking that 32mm nut off!

I have it pryed, using a breaker bar, and still nothing. Make sure I'm going the right way, LOL. I'm going in the direction marked in white, righty tightey lefty loosey..

This is the part im talking about. You can skip that step by removing the susp. parts that are connected to the car and pulling the whole spindal and control arms out of the way(upper control arm still conected.. jst hanging). and supporting them up out of your way with a chair or something. It is a pia taken the axle nut off alone pulling the axle from the spinal. Let me put it this way you have a 50% chance of destroying that axle by trying to take it out that way.

Wish i had a pic.. Disconnect the lateral(curved control arm)-2 bolts, remove the lower ball joint and arm from body. 2 bolt and nuts. One connects to body and the other part that connects the the wishbone, disconnect the outter tie rod end from spindal, that should get you almost there***BTW this is not the way hanes tells you to do it.. I think i read this on a how to and it saves so much time and money. I did your way the first time i did a trans and it took me a week because the axle was seized and other stupid stuff

I see what you are saying. Anyone want to confirm this? I got a friend 3 times my size to break the nut so I got 20 minutes to make a decision.

Well i had a very reputal guy watch me when i did my 3rd tranny and he said what i was doing was fine. He does the same thing but he said the fastest tranny he has done out and in is 3 hours LOL. BTW his name is DSMloki. Big name on dsmtalk and others.

Im just trying to make it easier for you. I wouldn't tell you something i havent done myself on my car.**

If you want that castle nut off the spindle put the tire back on and lower the car back down. Take the center cap out of the rim and put your socket and breaker bay on it to remove. THis way is alot easy to do. Your way is the hard way.

To remove spindle(axle) from car, hopefully your axle isnt stuck in the steering knuckle, i would shock it by hiting with brass pucnh and hammer or wood. Unbolt the steering nuckle for strut and fold down, this should allow your remove you axle from the car. A pry bar on the tranny side of the axle to pop it out. You should have it out tonight.

Has anyone ever done it the way i have done it LOL. It saves soooo much time.

Wouldn't that be the same as the manuals technique with the pry bar? Both tire and pry bar keep the axle from moving.

ya it is just using the car as the support instead of using both tools

You know what the funnything is. All this time we have been debating which way to go with removing the axle... I would have had the tranny out by now using my method. It is sooo easy. No need for a 32mm socket. I used all small hand tools. all 3/8th drive sockets and a pipe so i can torque it down and break them loose.

2 1/2 hours LOL since i chimed in. I get mine out in 3 hours from the beginning... I did mine in nooo light in a freezing garage by myself. All i had was a shop light.

Ya, that way saved me a LOT of time! All I have to do now is take the upper tranny mount off, ubolt the transmission, and I can do my thing.

Your very welcome man. I wouldn't lead you in the wrong direction LOL. Hope it all goes smooth. Ttyl

Bringing back and old thread as my first post!
removing an axel nut is childs play if you take some penetrating fluid wd40 works fine as well as 12/34 take a small propane torch and heat the nut quickly trying not to heat up the axel itself(expanding the nut) immediatly spay the penetrant onto the nut and threads you can physically watch the fluid get pulled into the threads!! after that a 3 yr old could remove that nut.
