So i've got the engine/trans out of my car(finally) and i'm starting to order parts. MAPerformance had a good deal on some bearings, so i sent them a pm saying i'd like the ACL Race bearing in a .5 main and .25 rod. Well, come to find out, they don't make the ACL Race in that size and my only choice with this short block is going to be the ACL Alluglides, which is what i removed. I've had someone tell me i should get a different crank. I'm just not sure what to do. Are the alluglides junk? Should i hunt for a short block? or crank?

I've got a specific amount of money set aside to get this car completely running again, if i can't fix it under this budget then the car will probably have to sit for a really long time before i've got more funds to throw at it. This thing has a/c. my current car does not. I also have a 3 year old daughter. So... I'd really like to get this thing running as soon as possible so we can actually go places this summer.

some notes...
This will be a stock rebuild, stock boost levels. Just adding some things for security like ARP hardware. I do not ever plan to turn this engine into anything more than a stock engine, nor do i ever plan on running anything more than stock boost. This is just gonna be a nice daily driver with a good stock rebuild and some suspension/chassis/brake modifications.

Thanks guys. I appreciate any input

I'd rather not deal with them because of their negative feedback. and i can go to the parts store and get a crank with bearings for 160, without having to pay a hefty shipping charge.

thanks for trying though :)

Have you considered why the auto store crank WITH bearings is only $160?

From what I've read about our engines, the last thing you want is a crank that's been machined down to use undersize bearings.

The crank from the parts store has probably been remanufactured all to hell and comes with undersize bearings.

because they sell mass quantities and are cut with .25 bearings?

I'm sure you know the answer. Can you give me your opinion? Are the alluglides junk? Should i hunt for a short block? or crank?

Right, cutting a crank will most likely cut off the nitride coating. However, i'm not worried about that. This is simply a stock build for a daily driver.

"Remanufactured all to hell" Come on now... your just being negative. A .25 cut crank would be just fine for a stock rebuild. I know a few ppl who love budget builds and use these reman cranks for 4XX whp builds and have zero problems.

If you do use it, take the crank to a machine shop and check it for straightness, proper specs, etc. I'd be a bit leery on it and are you positive they are OEM re cut cranks and not cheap material cranks?

On a side note, I picked up a 6 bolt bare block with crank for $100.
