Well I upgraded to a small 16g after the seals went on the t25, and now the clutch is slipping like a mofo. At WOT in 3-5 gear it's like the car isn't moving, and on the highway I can barely pass people.

Being a FWD, my power goals for the car are somewhere around 300hp. Basically I'm looking for a good flywheel and clutch setup that can handle DD duty, auto-x'ing, and maybe the occasional drag pass.

Other than ACT, I don't really know what else to look at, and I feel like a 2600 would be overkill my my setup. Any advice or input would be appreciated on possible setups and options. Thanks.

I just installed a South Bend dual friction clutch and pressure plate. Not as famous as ACT but a much better product 1900 lb clamp load and smooth as silk plus it will last forever.Basically what everyone will be going to in the future. They have a web site and they are in Elkhart Ind. Give them a call.

Sounds like you went with a SS-Series pressure plate and the OFE (organic/Feramic) dual friction sprung hub full-face clutch disk. Great choice! The part number for this clutch would be K536SS OFE

If you do want to call them, talk to Jon - 800-988-4345 -- I normally place orders with SBC a couple times a week.

I didnt think a 7 bolt could handle that kind of pressure...(act 2600), are they can its just not recomended due to thrust bearing issues. I know that "crankwalk" is overkill, but wouldnt it be better safe than sorry?

I bought an ACT 2600 and fidanza fly wheel for my 98 GSX, EXTREMEPSI.com has a bundle) and its been great so far. my goals are a little higher than yours so you might be better off with the 2100 PP. how the clutch feels is all about break in. I drove mine like a granny (never going above 2800 RPMs) for over 500 miles with the new clutch. Aside from the slight increase in pedal pressure, most anyone can drive my car and its not jerky or too rough.

just my .02

I normally tend to steer ANY 4G63 users away from pressure plates above 2700#. Both 6-bolt and DSM 7-bolt engines are succeptible to thrust bearing failure due to too much thrust load on the crank from overkill clutches, it is not only on 7-bolt's.

gotchya....the more i learn the easier it is to respond to questions. Ive heard of both having problems with thrust bearings, just more so on the 7 bolts. But i guess with amount of pressure some of these clutches produce, its bound to happen on just about any motor.

People don't believe me when i tell them every manual 4g63 i've ever taken apart with a fair share of miles, has visible thrust wear.

I'm running XTD stage 2. I honestly dont care for it that much..

I have no idea what the PP is, but it will start to slip sometimes when i launch, and ill get the beautiful smell.
Also, I'm on number two. My first one broke, luckily it was under warranty.

I'd stay away from them

I have seen thrust bearing wear on anything from manual transmission 4G63's to automatic 4G63's (I have seen less of this), to propane-powered forklift 4G's.

Hell, my buddy's forklift crankwalked due to a faulty propane pressure valve for fueling the engine causing oil contamination and resulting in massive crankwalk.

It can happen to any engine and it has too many variables to discuss in this thread.

Back to clutches....Like I said in your PM, I really don't like XTD or Centerforce. I feel that XTD is ebay crap, and Centerforce has been known for weak street clutches that don't last long. This is based on my experiences and those of people I know. I have had the best luck with old-style ACT2600's, SBC clutches (SS and SS-X pressure plates with TZ, OFE or TZ/FE disks), along with ACT Streetlite chromoly flywheels for single-disk clutch assemblies.

Currently, there are no available FWD 7-bolt flywheels in stock or produced by Quarter Master or MAPerformance. You can give Chris Carey at MAPerformance a call and ask if they are in-stock, but last time I checked, he was out of stock indefinitely for their flywheels that go with the Quarter Master or PTT twin-disk clutches.

As for your application, the twin-disk would be extreme overkill.

Ive had good luck with exedy back in the honda days but I would just go for an ACT 2600 if I were you. Get something that is proven so that you don't have to open that tranny up again.

Although i have different views on brands, twicks is right about a heavy pp. A 2600# pressure plate on a 7 bolt isn't a good idea, or necessary. A lighter, 1900-2300# pressure plate, with a higher friction disk, works great for these cars.
