Need more info on electric power steering

Was wondering how difficult it would be to swap my pulley power steering to an electric power steering and if there are any benefits from swapping and whatnot would need and how much it would cost thank you

I also drive a SW20 (2nd gen MR2 turbo) it rocks an electric power steering system. works fine for that car. But then agin it has no engine weight sittin on top of the front steer tires so...? If theres any thing you need to know about the donor car Im sure I could go take a look at my toyota powersteering to awnser a question.

It's something that I would like to do but I don't want to fork out the money to do it at this point. I just throw on a belt when I have to get my car inspected and then take it off after.

I dont think it would cost $hit to get a set-up from a junk yard. I just think it would be easier to convert the rack to a manual. If you remove the steering rack from the car, you can weld shut where the 2 power steering fluid lines went, you then drill and tap grease zerks where you just welded the fluid ports shut, next you pump the crap out of it with grease, re-install on car and enjoy a home-made manual steering rack

That's just the thing though, I have yet to see a mr2 in any yard around here. If there is one, it's too old and has the belt driven pump. Plus you have to get/make lines for it and I'm not that concerned about it right now.

Why do you think i suggested the manualization of your steering rack? you know its possible to remove the powersteering rack and home-made style convert it to a manual steering? If a guy just ghetto style removes the powersteering pump and belt and lines and keeps the original rack then he's an idiot. Non power steering equipt cars come with a rack thats differant built than a power steering rack, it is possible to duplicate it your self given the parts you already have right here right now

I know this as well, I'd rather have power steering over a manual rack. Why would I weld up my rack when I would want to have it powered later on? That is counterproductive. My pump is in place,as everything else. I just do not run a belt on it because my cheapbay under drive pulley likes to eat the ps/ac belt. I would want to do the electric psp to clean up my bay as well as have ps. There is no point for me to want to do it right now because I have my priorities.

well reguardless, its all good info for the OP. I would also agree for what its worth, just leave the factory ps sytem and dont mess with it
