Ok i have a mint 97 GST. It has no major mods. Has ACT 2100 Clutch Injen Intake Greddy RS BOV and hardpiping.. Now I have no signs of crankwalk or anything but is it worth me still putting money into this car incase I do get it..Should I swap it out with a 6bolt? Or just keep messing with this motor..The motor thats in there has 110k Miles..But runs perfect..Im in quite a delema..Please give me some personal views thankyou

Ahhh, well with the money you save by not taking it to a shop, go to sears and buy craftsmen. They have sales all the time. I picked up a 120 piece set for 145 I think it was. And then when you need a tool, go buy it while you're working...

How about a lift? LOL i got the basic tools but i dont have a garage so it sucks..but i mean i got alot of tools

Hmmm, you don't have a garage? You could rent a storage shed for a month. An engine lift isn't that expensive either.

Cheap tools can be had at Harbor Freight. If they break (which I have yet to happen) then you can just chuck them and still buy 2 more for the price.

But do a compression test. Its not hard, takes ~45 minutes of your time and you don't need a garage.

Yea its just gonna be hard to save up for a 6bolt even tho be worth it in the end I know :beatentodeath: But i can get the engine for 1300 and it cost about 7 to get it installed so I think im just gonna throw little stuff on the 7 bolt and just start saving

Ok first of all look around your area and find a dsmer who isnt out for your cash ...all my dsm buddies will help people they dont even know with a swap just to make a new buddy and not charge them a thing.

Second if your going to put money into the car do it right the first time and dont waste your money and try to do it cheap by not getting a 6 bolt. i have a friend that put ALOT of money into his d only to have his 7 bolt walk on him. It rarely happens but if you are unlucky enough for it to happen then will you be able to come up with the money to have it fixed if needed? I know i wouldnt be able to and the car would be down for atleast a few months. So dont make the mistake many dsmers do and try to do things cheap. Just my 2 cents :talon:

Oh and if it comes down to it and you want a 6 bolt cheap call junkyards and just do a stock rebuild i picked up my 6 bolt for 250 bucks and when i tore it down i found out it had just been rebuilt and didnt have to change really anything. Even if you dont get so lucky thats still a cheap alternative if you only want 300 ponies a stock rebuild is more than enough

ok cool thanks man...but unfortunintly everyone in ny will be after my money no matter how i look at it..it sucks but what are you gonna do...:barf:

Uh, bad advice? I WISH someone had given me that advice when I needed it. And I didn't say jack about cwalk. I've NEVER seen it nor have I known ANYONE to actually have it. I HAVE HOWEVER, had a 95 GST with <90k miles on it spin a bearing. I have had a 97 GSX with 120k miles spin a bearing. So with MY experience and MY OPINION, your advice SUCKS. Just like the POS 7 bolt. That motor is JUNK (in stock form) and I dont give a shit who thinks otherwise. Also, for the record, the GSX was bone stock.

Take my advice or leave it, either way I don't really care. But don't expect any pity, from me at least, when you put all this money into your 7 bolt, it fails, and your broke and can't afford to fix it. That's how I turned out because I took advice from a lot of people like the ones posting here, it ended up costing me 9 months down time because I didn't just save up and do it right the first time.

Kidding me. An engine is going to treat you like it has been treated over its life. Mine has a good 147k on it and I have not had 1 problem with it yet. Stock to 16g. Thats all.

Just take your time and look around for someone thats not going to try to make you go broke im sure there has to be some people around there that wont want to just take your money. Why not hit up the mitsubishi graveyard? Im not sure how close you are to it but its in ny i know that much. Im sure the guys there might be able to get you a motor and even give you a good shop name thats not going to rape your wallet.
