So Ive got my transmission out for a rebuild so of course I checked out my clutch as well. Open it up and don't like what I see. The car came from the previous owner with an ACT 2600. Turns out it isn't a 2600 disk, but im not sure exactly what it is. Doesn't matter because it is too worn to re-use. Both my pressure plate and flywheel look pretty bad. A bit of glazing and some cracks on both, I assume because the guy before me let the clutch drag. (also why im rebuilding the tranny) Flywheel is bad enough I am just replacing it, But I don't want to replace the pp unless I have to. It does have some light cracking on the outsides but none of it looks too deep. Do you think it can be resurfaced safely or am I going to need a full new clutch? Also, if you think I need a new clutch, feel free to make recommendations, just keep it under $400ish. Thanks for the help.:hellyeah:

If the Pressure plate or flywheel has cracking, I would replace them. I don't think a PP can be resurfaced either.

I've got a ACT 2600 with Street Disc and Fidanza flywheel and love the set up. I don't DD my car nor live in an area where I have to worry about traffic so the heavy pedal doesn't bother me.
If you DD your car or have to deal with a lot of traffic, look at the ACT 2100 or even the Center Force Dual Friction.

you got some bad hot spots,

STM has new 2600/ street disk kits for under $400, they quoted me like $297 for just a 2600 PP.

Good luck

most PP/flywheels will have some small/lite cracks from use, that is not much of an issue, they are caused from termal expantion of using the clutch

what is , is the blue/black streaks and hot spots, they will not grip the disk.

PP can be ground, but there are very few shops Nat'l that can do it, but for the time it would take and cost, you will be better off getting a new one

I would also recommend a new one. I've read a lot of bad things about the act 2600, and like above there are some good things too. Just make sure to get an unsprung disc with the 2600.

I found a local shop that said they would do it for $60 or so, but I haven't actually taken it to them for them to see it.
As far as the clutch, the weight doesn't bother me, its that it engages so close to the floor. The po set it all up, and it appears to be set up properly, but I know it still slightly drags. I hadn't yet reset it but was planning on it when I got stuff back in. Would the centerforce or 2100 do a better job of releasing?
Also, I thought for dd a sprung disk was better for less drivetrain stress?
