Need Help With Weird Belt sound...

Okay, When iv noticed, twise...When Im waitin in line at a fast food or something, just ideling, A belt will start squeaking loud as hell, it sounds bad, then it makes a clicking sound and stops....its like errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr click I rev a little it speeds up and 5 seconds later, clicks over....

Im not sure what It means.

how long has it been since your timing belt was changed?

when mine was goin out it made kinda the same noise, but not when i was idleing, when i was accelerating above 3000RPM's, check the tension, it may be getting loose or streched out

if thats not it, then i'm not sure, unless its your alternator belt slipping then catching and its the alternator making the click

?? just an idea??

it sounds like something is cetching when I say clicking....So probably the alt. belt?

My timming belt was changed only 20k miles ago

see, it doesent do it, then starts doing it, so im guessing the alt....If so, Do I need to replace it, or is it fine?

the catching sound could be the alternator just kicking in, and turning off, if the aternator is not bad, it may be dirty, in my MR2 the alt belt would squeal like hell, and i took it to the shop to see if i needed a new one, and since it is mid engine, road grime and dirt just made it so dirty it would not properly cool and it would shut itself off so it would not over heat and damage itself.

but again i had almost 4000 watts of stereo running of the stock alternator, and one battery, so i was drawin way mor power than the alt was putting out so it was always on building up heat and then it would lock up

my car is making the same horrible noise also, and i have the same syptoms. I am taking it in to my mechanic today to see what is wrong. Another possiblilty is the bearing in the alternator is going bad and may be causing the squeaking. I will let you know what i find out today.

Mine started doing it right after my timing belt change. The mechanic left a belt loose and it took me a while to figure out which one it was. I used WD-40 as a band-aid but it only helped a little. Finally when my power steering wouldn't work at startup unil the belt caught I figured out exactly which belt it was. But geez, its loud and embarassing!

AC on (or, defroster) or off? Possibly a failing AC clutch.

Most likely a blown harmonic damper (crank pulley). You can read about the other dead ones in every tenth post on this forum.

I think I have a similar problem with my 92 Laser, but only when it's cold outside. It starts just fine, but as soon as I rev the motor up to about 2,000 and put it in gear to pull out of the garage, the belt starts squealing. I've been meaning to check the tension, but never got around to it. It just happens when I try to drive the car without warming it up first anyway.

Maybe it's the same sound you're hearing. Then again, maybe it isn't.
