Hello,

i've made a search through the forum, and found some posts that are related to grinding/weird noses coming from the timing belt area, but none of them could help me:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159844&highlight=timing+belt+weird+sound
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102593&highlight=timing+belt+grinding
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244690&highlight=timing+belt+2.8Nm

The first and third links are pretty much more related to my problem, since the grinding noise coming from the timing belt cover is ONLY in about 1500-3000RPM.

Well I just had a timing belt problem, having some of its tooth been cracked by the crank (i twas at idle, lucky day), as all the other tooth were already pretty damaged too, all of them almost been cracked also. The tensioner pulleys were also bad. That happened in less than 10k miles, all the parts were brand new. Yes, LESS than 10k miles on all brand new parts.

Before all the sh** happened, I remember that my timing belt had a weird sound coming from between the two cams, the t.belt had also a "wooble" movement in that range of RPMs. The sound (as well as the wooble movement) could be heard out loud, really loud, from 2-3k rpms, no noise at idle, no noise at high rpms.

Now im putting on a new t.belt kit: new auto-tensioner (this one is OEM Mitsu), new tensioner pulley, new guiding pulley, new belt. Today we started the engine, and same noise. We made some tests:

1) We made the install procedure just like the dsm manual, vfaq asks for. We pressed the tensioner pulley by hand (dont have a 2.3Nm torque tool), and after all is done (15 minutes waiting, 6 crank loopings, etc) the auto-tensioner has about 4mm of gap and stayed there. Just nice.
2) After letting the engine work for about 15minutes to get it hot, we checked the auto-tensioner: plunger all the way in! Seems like it is beem pressed with so much pressure that it is almost all the way in, like excessive timing belt pressure on the auto-tensioner or tensioner pulley.

Are we just putting to much pressure to the tensioner pulley, much more than those 2.3Nm that the manual asks for? Or are we putting too few pressure to the tensioner pulley (as the third link above makes me think?)? Or do am i a really lucky guy with a new-and-broken OEM auto-tensioner?? What is wrong?

Please HELP

Regards!

Michel

thanks for posting, luv2.

I had already see that post, but still i wasnt pretty sure about the small vibrating between the 2 cams, i though it would be a good idea posting a new thread.

I've been discussing some facts with vr4play in this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244690 , and now i think that the vibration im getting is just normal...but still seems a little weird for me. God nows heheh

Regards!
