ok guys Im new to the site and I relay need some help I got this car from a guy for 500 its my first car. but the problem is it don't run rite now Im on the bases of trying to fig out the timing belt the guy put a new head gasket on but never put the belts back on I know tdc and the thing with screw diver at the highest point but overtime I try to start it don't work so that's leading me to think maybe it mite be a fuel pump issue because I cant here it humming or anything so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

note: im limited on money and I need step by step maybe some pictures to

ok thanks man Ill probably work on it this weekend now if i get it all lined up and i try too start and it dosent do I have to take all of it off again.

and also wan all the marks are lined up do i turn the camshaft so that the are head by two teeth and keep it that way or do i do 6 rotations to get all me makes line up again. thanks

doing belts on a 1.8 is a breeze - done many of them. But as always with the 4G series, you have a balance belt to deal with before doing the main belt.

Oh, yo don't have to do the six rotations due to there is no autoadjuster, but it doesn't hurt either.

Good luck. - DSM

Here's two more links on the world of the 1.8L (4G37) to chek out:

Doing a belt on a 1.8L : put the cam mark aligned with the mark on the upper cover mounting plate (mark is at 12:00 positon.)

Crank sprocket: the inner balance belt sprocket flange has a "V" groove that meets up with the pointer on the oil pump cover. This gets the crank at TDC.

Oil pump sprocket mark matching up with the oil pump cover mark: Simply rotate the mark on the oil pump sprocket until it is pointing straight up, and let it go. If the sprocket rotates towards (counterclockwise) the timing mark on the engine, the oil pump sprocket is aligned correctly. If it rotates away (clockwise) from the mark, spin the sprocket a full turn and test again, and it should properly rotate towards the mark now. Now line the mark on the sprocket back up with the mark on the engine.

loosen the center pinch nut on the adjuster pulley bracket after loosing the bracket pinch nut. The bracket is spring loaded.

Put the belt over the cam and secure it down with a clothes pin or bulldog clip.
Wrap the belt over the crank sprocket and oil pump sprocket.
Push on the adjuster pulley outward so the belt can pass behind the pulley.
check the three pullies that the marks are still aligned with their respective marks.
The adjuster pulley will be pushing against the belt and this is where you roll the crank forward a turn to set the tension on the tensioner pulley. Then, lock down both pinch bolts on the bracket.
You should have a good quarter inch of slack on the belt on the long (non-tensioner pulley) side of the belt.
If all looks good, then roll the crank six times to see if all marks come back to alignment. Nice thing about the 4G37 is that it's a non-interference motor. Thus if a valve comes down, it won't kiss the piston no matter how bad off the timing is.
Put the thing back together and it should take off when you hit the starter.

See what happens. - good luck - DSM

From your first post it sounds like you already put the timing belt on but its not running?

If this is the case check for spark and fuel. Easiest way if you dont have a helper is to pull the spark plug wire off cylinder 4(passenger side). Get a spare spark plug and insert it into the wire you just pulled off and rest it on your windshield. Hop in the car and crank it over. If you see the plug sparking then your good to go. If you dont it means either a bad coil in the distributor or a bad ecu. You can check for fuel by finding the test terminal by the battery. The one your looking for is going to look like a 2 pronged plug that has a cap on it. Pull the cap off and inside you'll see one prong. Jump that to the battery, you should be able to hear the fuel pump turn on.

Also since you said the previous owner did the head gasket, i would check and make sure your distributor is installed correctly, as well as all spark plugs wires are hooked up in the proper firing order. With the cam shaft gear and crank gear timing marks lined up the rotor beneath the distributor cap should be pointing towards where cylinder 1's pick up point would be on the cap. The cap should be marked with which one is cylinder 1 and then going clockwise from that one its 1, 3, 4, 2

can u show the location or a pic to the terminal for the fuel pump?

ok so i can disconnect from testing the terminal and it should still work
im waiting for my friend to get here so we can get the timing belt on first.
