Hi everybody, about 2 months ago got a 94 Eagle Talon DL.

The dash lights(all of the gauges all the way to the climate controls/radio controls) at first would fade in and out. A bit annoying, but i would play with the switch a bit (the small circular one on the left of the dash that controls the brightness of the dash light) and it would come on, stay on and not flicker, and seem to be ok. This used to be my step dad's car(the only other owner) and when i told him, he said 'yeah there's a short in the wiring i think, it does that sometimes'...good old Dad! :D.

Anyway, it gradually seemed to get worse.

A couple weeks later, the dash lights would come on like normal but then immdiately go all the way out after a couple minutes....then come on and stay on after a half hour of driving. The tiny inside warning lights like the brake light, seat belt, turn signal indicators, etc, work ok, as seemingly do the exteriors like headlights, signals, tail lights, etc.

Well a couple weeks after that....NO dash lights at all. They make a brief appearance randomly from time to time, but can go right back out just as fast. Also when at a complete stop, my car will act like it wants to die(it kinda did that before though), and the headlights sometimes will appear to dim a bit(that didnt happen before though), accelerate and they come back in full force. Doesn't do that all the time though. Also, if i have turn signals on, each blink of the signal makes the inside headlight indicator dim considerably in unison. New alternator/battery about 6 months ago and inside fuses appear to all be ok.

I read about some similar problems and it possibly being the swtich that doubles as headlight and turn signal switch being defective.....but that part is a little pricy to just order and hope against hope that will be the culprit.....

Any thoughts?
Be easy on me if this is an easy answer, i am noooooo mechanic that is for sure (and obvious). :coy:

Thanks to everyone in advance for your help.

Double check the ground wire from the battery to the fire wall and trans. There may be corrosion built up around or under them. remove themall and cleane them up with a little sandpaper. The dash light issue sounds like it is probably the dimmer switch going bad.
