Need help with battery change!

I just changed the battery in my 2g Eclipse, everything is hooked up but when I turn the key in the ignition all I get is a little spark sound from the battery, the engine doesn't turn over? When I turn on the lights, I get a weird hissing noice from the fuse box? Could I have blown the ingnition or the alternator by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery cables in the wrong order? Should I try and jump the car to get it running? I woud like to get this taken care of soon since I have to get going!

ok, I jumped the car of another one and with all 4 cables hooked up the car started fine? But when I turned it off and tried to restart it - still no power? Did I not leave it running long enough to charge the alternator?

why did you change the battery in the first place? are these similar to the problems you were having before the battery change?

you sure you hooked the battery up right in terms of +/- ?

you didn't mess anything up by taking one contact off of the battery before the other... regaurdless of which you did first.. though just for future sake... take negative off first, and put it back on last...
