i been working on timing belt/balance belt/water pump change for a few days. I got up to the crank pulley removal process, i removed 3 nuts but the last nut is so stuck. i put pb blaster on it still no help.

I keep turning with a a socket wrench but the cams keep moving while i turn. any ideas i can get the last nut off?

you mean bolt?
you havent gotten very far. bigger racket=more leverage or air gun. Just dont do anything dumb. i wedged a crow bar in the cam gears to take off the cam bolts and broke a cam gear in half. it did work on one though. Somethings are best left to an airgun.

Timing Belt VFAQ (Timing Belt TSB - ENHANCED)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This link is a very good place to help you out with your timing belt changing needs.

Also when you do finally get the new timing belt back on it is VERY crucial to make sure that you have all of your timing marks in line so you will not mess up anything with the engine. This guide will show you all the timing marks and everything that is needed for a timing belt change. With the timing belt marks not being lined up can result in bending valves and doing serious damage to your car that can cost money and time away from driving your DSM.

The reason for my DSM being down at the moment is because I was leaking oil because of my turbo being shot and i ran my car low on oil and my oil pump sprocket siezed up which caused my crank to eat away at the teeth on my timing belt. :banghead: :ohdamn:

still having trouble trying to get time correctly, do i need the tensioner tool? or i can use something else. and the pully, i dont have the 2 pin socket thing. here some pictures what i did so far.

also my dowel pins, one of them is facing down and the other facing up. is it ok?

Do you have a manual, if not check vfaq, this is a job that must be done just right, with some knowledge of what needs to be done. I see your new, if its not right youve got problems, get it right and the tensioner correct. There are tools you can get, im concerned because you cannot have dowl pins mismatch. If your really unsure have a professional do it. Lots of threads on this, you gotta look.

I used 90 degree long needle nose pliers.I had to grind the tips to get them to fit into the tensioner pully,Also , the exhaust cam tends to roll back a tooth, you have to hold it back to line up the marks. The last picture, the exhaust cam is 180 out , the dowel need to both be facing up. be sure that whatever you use to hold the auto tensioner in with (small allen key,etc...), slides in and out freely when you tighten the tensioner bolt. and make sure you rotate the engine around several times by hand before you start it and check the timeing marks. you can actually put the crank pully back on without the timing cover on and start it before you put everything back together to make sure it is correct. good luck.

edit: take out the spark plugs and turn the crank very carefully until the pistons are all in the middle of the hole, or even with each other before you turn that cam, it will spring around and you could damage the valves. then turn the crank back to tdc.

From personal experience, I have found it very helpful to have the Timing Belt/Balance Shaft Belt VFAQ. It is also very helpful to have a decent airgun as well as a decent air ratchet. You can get a decent set for about $100 if you look in the right places. Personally I have the Jay Racing TB kit. It's way better than the bent needlenose pliers. look it up at Jay Racing

Good Luck

Looks like the oil pump spocket is not lined up correctly. The arrow on the gear should pointing to the arrow tab on the block near it. Make sure the gear wants to rotate clockwise as well. The cam gears will need to be lined up as well. Other than that, everything looks good. Use 2 17mm wrenchs on the cam gears to get them lined up correctly. A helper will make this job alot faster. Reason I say this is because I had trouble installing the cam stop from the Jay Racing kit. Let us know if you have any issues.

The bolt that's between the water pump and cap where the balace shaft was, is loose. Just wanted to let you know, if you weren't aware, because I hate it (I'm sure you would too) when I have to go back and redo something because of a little mistake.

It's on the middle far left of the pic
