Ok I’m doing a timing belt change on my 95 gs. Water pump and everything else (tensioner pulley, idler pulley, ect..)
I've read http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G-NT.html
and I'm stuck. Ok it says work can be done through the inner wheel well and over top of the fender.
The first step is not a problem as I have removed the inner plastic piece to access the crankshaft damper bolt.
Now on the second step is where I’m stuck LOL.

first off how do I get the bolts off? I can barley even see them. Next how do I get the bracket off? isn't it attached to the compartment frame or something?
I'm so confused because the space you are given to work in is almost like 1/2 inch in between the side of the engine and side of the engine compartment, so how can I possibly change part and whatnot?
When I look at this picture here The only thing easily accessible is the cam gears and the crankshaft bolt.

Is it really possible to change the timing belt and everything else with the engine in the car? I'm so stuck right now. Am I going to need to remove the engine?
Thanks to anyone who can help.[/

You can reach those 4 bolts that hold on the cover from the bottom. Jack it up, take off the wheel and plastic cover, and make sure to use a small rachet, like 1/4" drive. Or, you may need to use a wrench and just turn a little, reset, turn a little, reset, etc. since there isn't much room in there like you mentioned. I can get mine, just barely, with a small 1/4" drive rachet with a 10mm socket.

when I did my TBELT on my 420a I was able to completly loosen all the bolts, but one of them I could not get out because it hit the frame of the car, I ended up leaving it in (not screwed in) but the bolt came out WITH the bracket.

Hey guys,
thanks for the reply.
This may be a really stupid question but when its time to remove the engine motor mounts, will my engine just drop out of the car? Does it need to be supported by anything?

Next question is is there a way to loosen the belt around the crankshaft pulley? Or do you just slide the pulley off with the belt on?

Thanks.

did you read the VFAQ or book on this????

support the engine with a jack and a block of wood.
the tension on the belt is released by removing the timing belt auto tensioner...

You should consider taking your car to a shop.

A general rule of thumb is to read over the instructions if your not familiar with the steps and try to familiarize yourself with the process before diving into it. Reason being is you do not want to rush into a job and get stuck asking 100,000 questions that could have been answered via reading the walkthrough asking your questions THEN trying to tackle the job.

This isn't mean to come off rude but I'm sure it will sound like it is.
If your having problems at step 2 please consider taking your car to a shop. That way you don't end up having to make a second thread complaining because the car isn't starting or your engine is blowing oil/smoke and sounds "really weird".

Goodluck

hey guys,
I read the vfaq and thats what i'm going by.
It says nothing about supporting the engine.
And for the tension of the belts, i'm not talking about the timing belt,
I'm talking about the belts around the crank pulley and al the others on the outside.
Any help?
Thanks

there is a tensioner on the alternator for one and the other one is just another pulley towards the front of the car...and the timeing belt cover...well u can do what i did and just get rid of it LOL....break it off and never use it again. it proved to be much faster....anyways that thing can be a pain good luck
