I have a 98 Eclipse GSX awd, turbo, automatic. The car is stock and I don't know much about the motors. I would like to put mods on it without tearing to far into the motor. It has good compression on all four cylinders. Head gasket is leaking. Looking to upgrade the head or maybe new cam gears and valve job on stock one? looking to eventually upgrade turbo exhaust, etc. looking for help and suggestions on the 2.0 turbo. thanks

First thing to do is set a goal and a budget.

As far as the head goes, you can spend as little as 30 bucks and change the valve stem seals yourself , or spend $4500 on a head that has all the bells and whisles done to it.

Start with the basic mantinace, the timing belt, and fix the HG.

Read alot, There is tons of info about cylinder heads here.

seems a little early to need head upgrades. Little things such as turbo (nothing too big, maybe an Evo BIG 16G) exhaust, and wideband o2 sensor would be a good start. once you can monitor afr it is possible to up the boost safely. Although I can't honestly say that I wouldnt be tempted to at least do a 5 or 3-angle valve job. You should take head to the machine shop anyway to check head over so while its there that may not be a bad decision

As far as upgrading the i know there are a lot of thing u can do im not looking looking to spend alot of money going to do all the work my self. If it's a good idea to used the stock head i will get it machined and a valve job. I think its tje headgasket because it overheats no obvious leaks no coolent in oil but losing antifreez new water pump and thermostat
