So I got my car about a month ago and drives fine no lights nothing on. But makes a sound like my power steering Pully thing( thing with the belt on it) raddles constantly. But never did nothing but sqeak on cold starts But would stop when warmed. .(but always raddle)

But I was driving today and noticed the rattle got louder and went to pull over and my steering completely locked (didn't lose power steering felt like it couldn't steer). I had a del sole with no ps but this didn't feel like that. I had to cut the car off before I could turn it. But when steering locked I pushed the clutch in looked at the guages no over heating or nothing but was ideling around 500rpms.

So I push the car into a parking spot and let it cool off. Then after about 30mins opened my hood started it and looked at the belts to see if anything seemed ify and my power steering was locked!!!! Not turning. The belt going from powersteering to something else(some big Pully with the belt going from the alternator and crank and whatever) wasn't spinning but when did spin was just skidding over the power steering pulley making it start smoking and seeking really loud.

Also I'm pretty sure it's from the power steering but my other belt (alternator... Coming from the same pulley my power steering is connected to) was slowly spinning which would explain the low rpms. Someone please help it is my only car right now.

Daniel, if it is the alternator belt and it looks like it is, loosen the bolt that goes through the "house" looking thing on the alternator, that is the hold down bolt and holds it in place and tight. You will see a long threaded bolt that sticks out down there on the alternator which is the adjuster. You will loosen it, it is in a "U" shaped groove and as soon as it is loose enough you can slip it out of the "U". Make sure the bottom pivot bolt is loose too and the alternator should lean in towards the water pump pulley allowing you to remove what is left and put a new one on. It is the front belt, the back one being your power steering, which I wrote a paragraph for you on how to remove it. There really isn't any trick to the alternator. Just start tightening the long adjusting threaded rod up and the belt will get tighter as you go, then tighten the hold down bolt that goes through the little "house" looking piece on the front of the alternator and it will stay tight. Sometimes I have to hold the adjuster rod into its "U" bracket while I tighten it up or it will "crawl" out of it and you have to loosen it back up and slip it back into the U then repeat the tightening process. I am sure you can do it once you eyeball it and see the components I am referring to. I am sorry I don't have pictures here at work to show you and I didn't drive my Talon to work today or I would shoot a couple pics for you. Good luck, you can handle this as good as "Mr Tire" did.

You said that i spins over really fast, is that faster than normal? Faster now than before you had the work done? By that statement, it sounds like the timing belt job was done incorrectly and the timing jumped and bent valves causing the engine to turn over fast due to no compression.

I agree and wondered about that statement myself, so that is a good point Daniel.

It shouldn't turn over that fast AND I bet if you take the upper timing gear cover off you will see why it is spinning fast, listen to Paul and yes tow it back to "MR TIRE" for them to inspect THEIR work!!!

Or find a better/legit shop that can go over all of it and write down for you all that is wrong. I'd be a little weary taking it back to mr tire after all that's happen. They most likely will tell you it's not anything they did and it will cost you 1k to fix now. They won't admit they screwed up and probably even blame you. Wish I was closer to you bro or I'd come do it for you! Shoot if you can wait a week I'll actually be in md visiting my wife's family, starting October 1. Id be more than happy to meet you and go over it :)

WHAT??? Sparkplug exploded huh. I suppose the headlight oil was low too....Sounds awful shady but I am not there.

Timing belt is still intact they said. They said my spark plug exploded causing the piston to blow out.
They messed up and now don't wanna admit it was there fault..
Never heard of a spark plug just exploding out of no where and isn't it wierd that it did it after they did work on it ... ?

Seriously though make them fix it they messed up tell them you want it fixed for free and you want your money back
Btw what do u mean it exploded ?

Like Pauly man said small claims court is the way to go if they don't wanna fix there mistakes

I'll never give my car to any mechanic that works at (candian tire, fountain tire,mr tire ,walmart , any place tbh unless I know them) hell I once got an oil change at Mr lube (it was -40 Celsius ) and they stripped my drain bolt and didn't tell me ,what a surprise that was when I did my next oil change

Should of did this yourself, did you go to a few places to see what they quote you before you went to Mr tire ?

Wonder if they forgot to fill up the boost juice too? Heard that causes spark plugs to detonate and explode like c4 ...:aha:<- the mechanic at Mr tire thinking of lies hah

Take pictures of everything you can or a video

Hey, my Boost Juice doesn't make my sparkplugs explode, maybe its a weak mix! In all seriousness, listen to Paul.

Lmao don't forget to top up the exhaust fluid make sure to use a 45/55 mix ROFL ,

but yeah in all seriousness wonder if they used the wrong spark plugs thats the only way I can think of a spark plug exploding is if it was long enough to contact the piston

OMG that's a terrible thought, an extended tip touching the piston, you may REALLY be on to something with that one! Daniel, make sure they put the correct plugs in it.

I checked my exhaust fluid this morning, its up to level.

Good you had me worried! LOL

But yeah hopefully the op can take pictures of the damage literally I don't see any other way a spark plug could just explode

I'm also hopeing that you don't get ripped off over this car I have barly just spent 2 grand on my laser and that's doing pretty much everything maintainence wise
And some unwanted transmission rebuilding

If labour was included it would be over 5grand but i like my cash and I like to learn

Belt intact does not mean it didn't slip. My guess is now a valve isn't just bent but broken off and destroyed a plug. Yes we are not there but I've personally seen this job too much. I once read a deposition on nearly this exact failure. Guy sued the mechanic. Icing on the cake is I was reading for the mechanics lawyer and i billed him 150$ for the privilege.
