So I got my car about a month ago and drives fine no lights nothing on. But makes a sound like my power steering Pully thing( thing with the belt on it) raddles constantly. But never did nothing but sqeak on cold starts But would stop when warmed. .(but always raddle)

But I was driving today and noticed the rattle got louder and went to pull over and my steering completely locked (didn't lose power steering felt like it couldn't steer). I had a del sole with no ps but this didn't feel like that. I had to cut the car off before I could turn it. But when steering locked I pushed the clutch in looked at the guages no over heating or nothing but was ideling around 500rpms.

So I push the car into a parking spot and let it cool off. Then after about 30mins opened my hood started it and looked at the belts to see if anything seemed ify and my power steering was locked!!!! Not turning. The belt going from powersteering to something else(some big Pully with the belt going from the alternator and crank and whatever) wasn't spinning but when did spin was just skidding over the power steering pulley making it start smoking and seeking really loud.

Also I'm pretty sure it's from the power steering but my other belt (alternator... Coming from the same pulley my power steering is connected to) was slowly spinning which would explain the low rpms. Someone please help it is my only car right now.

Okay so water pump, camshaft(i dont know which one) timing belts, tie rod ends, valve cover gasket, and left axle. $2300. Oh and adjuestment of my ebrake because it doesn't hold.

What about timing components? Hydraulic tensioner, idler and tensioner pulleys, BS pulley?

More importantly, who's doing the work, Mr. Tire? If so, I'd strongly recommend against it, unless you absolutely know the tech doing the work is familiar with all the intricacies of doing a timing belt job on a 4G63 motor. I've seen this scenario play out a thousand times. It always ends with the customer out a $hit ton of money and a car that's still broken...Or worse off then when it came into the shop.

Christ, for $2300 you could town the damn thing to my house (or any local enthusiast/shop for that matter) and have the work done right.

If you insist on Mr Tire doing the work, I'd provide all the parts. This would ensure not only that they address everything that needs to be serviced/changed, but you'd also avoid the ridiculous markup that they charge on all the parts they sell to customers. If they refuse to do the job with customer provided parts, I'd find another shop. If they try to give you the "no warranty on work because customer supplied NIB parts" bullshit excuse, once again, I'd find another shop.

A 91 nt talon doesnt even book for 2300 in most cases. This seems way inflated to me.

Agreed. Hell you could probably find a running turbo car for that price. If you find a red one you could just swap the nice body parts from your NT. Not to mention, you'd have a slew of other parts as spares.

I know I know. And I want a turbo car.they told my dad it was only $400 in parts. But at least 11 hours of work. Wtf. I've heard of people doing it in 1 1/2 hours. And they're professionals? Babahahahaha

I did my water pump and timeing belt for 400$..
I called crappy tire to see how much $$ I'm saveing doing it myself and they wanted 1500$ in labour !!
Thays Not even includeing parts !

Tbh I wouldn't let those "skilled" mecahnics replace my wiper blades .. let alone do a water pump and timeing job on an engine with no forgiveness

For 2500$ you could buy everything you need to do this job (tools,Jacks ,parts..)
And walk away saveing a grand and also learning something along the way..

Your giving away money
Got my timeing belt done in 8hrs and that's also stopping every once in a while to get random stuff like brake cleaner ,seals, more coolent

With haveing every tool and the luxury of a lift it should take them like 5 hrs

But again I like saveing money where I can hell I even dropped my transmission last week and dropped it off at the rebuild place so I save money on labour . Roughly spending 300$ for a good freind to rebuild my trans not bad eh?
I'm sure if I went to a random shop they would feed me bull$h!t and charge me insanely

Okay so it was fixed but now I was drivin to work this morning. No problems then the car just dies and I look at my belts and my accerssory belt (water pump crank alt) belt is shreaded. Any ideas? Need it fast. I'm stuck on the road. Only drive it a total of 2 hours. No problems at all.

Wow you nailed it! :applause:

They are doing a timing belt. You can't get the water pump off without removing it.
OP find out if they are replacing that belt for 900. If so make sure they change balance shaft belt also. Even with all that 900 is robbery. 600 or 700 is about right.

Really wiseman LOL how do you know they won't just throw the old one back on! You really think I don't know how to do a water pump/ timing job? Only been a tech for 18-19 years now and have owned and worked on my 95 gst since 99 but what do I know. Just cuz you think your so wise doesn't mean others aren't as well! The o.p. Says "mr. Tire is charging me $900 to change just the water pump"

Wtf? Did you even read pauleymans post before you attacked? He didn't even disagree with you. Your always so defensive and quick to start defending your rep. He said they "are" doing the belt meaning it's gotta come off to do the job..which you would of course know being a tech for so many years. He was referring to the fact that the timing job was being done whether they changed the belt or not and the op should push for a new belt especially for the amount he was paying..how could this be misunderstood?

If your not a part of the solution..

So my dad's selling it. He said if they fix it he's going to sell it for $1600 and get as much as he can. If not he's taking it to the junkyard because I owe him for paying to get it fixed.

He doesn't want it to keep breaking down.So now I'm carless.

:ohdamn: That really sucks!
it was the guy at the place he chose that broke your car. You needed a p/s pump and water pump and very likely a complete timing job (as per the maintenance schedule and also because the water pump is under the timing :argue:) and you were getting overcharged and it was done wrong apparantly. What exactly broke this time? And what is the dude who "fixed" it saying?

I am damn glad we don't have a "Mr Tire" in my area...........

I dont know. My dad won't give me $20 to put a new belt on it and baby it home. So I'm clueless. I do know the belt came off and that's all I see wrong. It's spinning over really fast when I try to stRt it and my dad said it's because. The belt only has one little thing still attached

Is a tow truck less than $20 buks......sounds reasonable to me to just put a belt on to get it home but SOMETHING sure tore that one up, have you figured out how it came to it's demise?

No. But I've read that the pulleys being not aligned can cause that. Or just the belt being to tight or to lose could cause it as well. I'm just trying to get it home.

Bummers man was worried about them messing things up. Wonder if they even changed the timing belt or just pocketed your $? I would pop the upper timing belt cover off and inspect before taking it back to them. If it don't look new get a fricken lawyer bro. Hate rip off shops. This is why I became a tech, was sick of seeing my parents getting ripped off back in the day.
