need clutch/trans help

[1991 eclipse gx 5 sp]

I am new to the forign car thing but here it goes. i just bought a 1991 eclipse gs and the previous owner converted it to a 5 speed from an automatic. the transmission came out of a gsx. It wont go into 4th or reverse. I tried adjusting cables and nothing. It just grinds when in 4th and wont go in at all. Reverse however i have to slam the shifter like 10-15 times before going in and it just goes in. still hear grinding. it has a new clutch system, hydrolic. now the shifter cables have zip ties on it. i need help please.

I would try adjusting the clutch pedal to start. Have you tried bleeding the clutch?

VFaq.com has write ups for it as well, and if this is your first DSM, I would bookmark the page anyways because it will come in handy a lot..But for visual aid check out those videos.

Also could try running Redline MT-90 which is what I have always used, which might not fix the problem. but it sure makes my tranny a lot smoother.

Thanks thoes videos were helpful. i unfortantly cant really do anything until saturday. thoes other things you mentioned, what are they and are they expensive, and what do they do?

For right now, I would just make sure the clutch is properly bled and the pedal is adjusted correctly. Does the car shift into those gears with the car off? Does it ever shift into those gears at all? You said the shifter cables were held on by zipties? I would make sure they are held into position correctly with the clip that holds them into there correct position..If the cables are being held on by zipties, I can see that being a problem and I would address getting that fixed. Try using the search and read all the other posts that people posted with similar problems..It could really be a number of things causing this..Read up on Vfaq and browse around the forums and I'm sure you'll get it
