The Backstory:
Compression Test Showed 20-30PSI on all 4 cylinders
Adding a Capfull of oil didn't help
I did NOT do a leak down test (really stupid) before pulling the head because I didn't have an air compressor and I didn't know at the time how important it would be.
I removed the head and took it into a local machine shop who tested to see if it was warped, and it came up 12/1000th of an inch warped. According to the owner, resurfacing can only correct about 2/1000th of an inch. Since I didn't take the cams in with the head he wasn't able to test them to see if they were warped. After asking for a worst case scenario he said at worst it would cost about 200$ to have the head straightened then resurfaced in spec. He also suggested that I might consider a remanufactured head or bare casting (to throw my valves, etc into)
The Question:
If you were in this situation with about an 800$ budget to get the car running again, what would you do? Have him try to straighten the current head? Purchase a bare casting head and throw all the internals onto it? Purchase a completely remanufactured head, valves and all?
I'm pretty new to DSMs and internal engine work so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants, and the suggestions of those more knowledgeable.
Please Help
