need advice for a new dsm

What should I look for when getting a GSX? How do I check if all 4 wheels are wired and working simultanueously. How do I check if the turbo is good and stuff?

You can tell on a AWD vehicle if its working correctly or not. Also the turbo, you will feel it push you back in your seat when you romp on it. To check for shaft play, take off the intake hose, with your fingers and the car off feel the shaft of the turbo if it is solid and doesn't work its a good turbo, if it moves then its a sign of a failing turbo...although not in all cases.

Also when driving/idling check for:
- grinding when shifting
- lifter tick (sounds like a rainbird)
- smoothness of ride
- tranny leaks, engine leaks

Just common sense stuff.

check for leaks and burning oil too.....and find out when the timing belt was last changed

and if there is shaft play, is it still worth buying it?

Sure, but make sure it's priced accordingly. If there's a decent amount of shaft play, the turbo isn't gonna be around much longer. It'd be a good excuse to ditch the T2-slow (t25) turbo and upgrade to a 16g or higher though.

Hmm, hose connected to the turbo? I don't see any (in pictures). I see metal pipes going to the turbo. I haven't actually went to the dealer yet, but I doubt they'll let me take the hose out. Any other way to check for shaft play?

Wired? This ain't no Subaru. It's mechanical. When it doesn't work (which is fairly seldom), it doesn't much run.

And make a note: 50/50 power split. There's your first DSM fact.

Second: they're American cars with Japanese motors and transmissions.
