Sorry If this is long... I took my 95 tsi awd to Road Race Engineering to have a clutch put in.. They kept the car 4 days more than they should have... And right when I went to go pick up the car they call me with bad news.. CRANKWALK!!! They said the bad clutch was caused by the crankwalk and not by wear... I bought a FULL Clutch Kit and lightened flywheel from SBR and $750 is what RRE charged me for the clutch install and now my car wont even get more than a block or two... So they sat me down and showed me what it would cost to fix my engine.. They suggested a 6bolt engine.. The total came out to $5471!!! with "NO" forged intenals... $6000 with eagle rods weisco pistons... I think this is way too much for a engine so I'm looking for a second opinion!!! If anyone knows of a good DSM shop in the Los Angeles even San Diego area please let me know ... And if you have had a 6bolt swap let me know how much it cost... thanks joe...

You were just there. There is no need for a second opinion after visiting RRE. If you can't afford to have them do it, then you need to park the car and do some reading so you can do it yourself.

That is including install. It doesn't sound like too bad of a deal, especially since RRE has such a good reputation. Slowboy sells a long block with Eagle rods and Ross pistons... It's $5000... Not including install or shipping.

I agree with Brian wholeheartedly. It should be RRE or no one. No other shop is going to have the experience or reputation RRE has. So either have RRE do it, or learn to do it on your own. Doing it yourself would save you lots of money.

Most DSM shops in Socal closed down.... the only one that I know of is Road Race, which by the way really know what they're doing and they stand by their work.

I'd really recommend doing it yourself. You may need to find someone who has a engine lift, but really this is where you'll be able to learn how to do everything yourself. You could also call Dynamic Motorsports in Lake Forrest and see if you could get Jeff to work on your car.

Good luck... and sorry to hear about your motor.

That price also includes a block and head core. Meaning you do not need to bring your old stuff in. I'm willing to bet RRE will make you source a head and a block to build from.

Just so you guys know the price I was quoted was for a used 6bolt block and they reuse the head thats currently in the car... I have no problem paying for the Engine but when I visit some of the sites theyre prices are for a Complete bottom end and a stage one or two head... And I have a feeling my head is going to be no good which means way more money... Also I was just wondering what kind of power can this setup handle? Damn 6 grand is a lot of money for a stock head... I just want to be sure its worth it if im going to sign on the dotted line... Thanks guys joe..

I suggest you just find a dsmer locally who knows what he is doing thats what i do and pay barely nothing. Most of the time i do it myself but yea try to find a dsmer locally or any car nut in fact. There are probably tons of people this forum who could probably help you out. :thumb: If i were you why get a crazy engine right now...... just get a 6 block from the junker for 500-1g or a another 4g63..... and get someone to install it. Good luck

As mentioned, you were at the best DSM shop in socal already. You gotta pay to play, and if you don't want to pay as much, do as suggested and research and do everything yourself, but believe me there will be a lot of trial and error and you have to make sure to take your time or else you will find yourself tearing everything out again. good luck!

here's the trick that you may not know

RRE = best dsm shop around
Road Race service (the shop next door that does the engine building/replacing) = really terrible customer service + overinflated prices and I have no idea how they managed to stay affiliated with RRE

Still pricey in my eyes. A stroker forged should not go for more than 2k if someone else builds it. Then another $600 for install. A good shop should get it done for 3k or less, they overcharge because of who they are.
