Need a Jailhouse Lawyer

Last night I went down to the lcoal car cruise spot to of course hang out with my fellow car junkies and enthusiats. Long story short - I only do 1/3 of the car cruise mainly because the route is usually crawlign with police and the end point ends at the local hot spot street races (That I do not participate in, I like my car TY). Coming back ont the highway after reacing the turn around point, a Yaris was riding my ass, so me not wanting to be rear ended I sped up onto the highway (3 Lane). The yaris was still on my butt when I decided to change to the center lane. I did not want to be in the center lane as the far left lane and center lane are used on the cruise for the fast lanes. (The highway is pretty empty at night). The Yari then pulled up next to me, as I changed lanes from the far right to the center while increasing speed. I knew he wanted to race but I do not race on the highway, and wouldnt especially during the car cruise when every police officer on the island is on the highway, so I changed lanes again to the far left lane. He then pulled past me (I was going 70 he was at WOT) as he pulled past me sure enough the police were on his ass, as I noticed one was on my ass as well.

Pulled over on the side of the road I was excused of racing on the highway, after trying to explain to the officer what was really going on, he gave me the look of "yeah whatever" so I shut my mouth and signed for my ticket. Racing on the highway and speeds over 81 mph. I think is bull because among hundreds of cars infront and behind me how the heck can I even attempt to do 81+.

I have a court date of March 30 this year, I plan on explaining my side of the story whcih is what I've explained to you all. I thought maybe I could write a letter or call the court and explain what happened before the court date, or maybe I should find a lawyer to pled my case. I dont race on the highway, I do however g over the speedlimit. My ony recent tickets include 55 in a 35 (Highway offramp speed limit drop of 55 to 35 within a hundred feet) and this one.

Could use some "expert" legal advise... or should I just sell my car and be done with it.

Maybe my obsession with DSMs and my thirst for the restoration and eventual 300-330 HP is not going to keep me out of trouble, which is what I really should do. I'm not a young kid anymore. I need to worry about retirement and going back to school

A letter to the court won't do you any good. I mean, who do you expect to read it? Get a lawyer.

Trust me I've been mulling it over all night. If I woulda just stayed in the slow lane, and just ignored that jerk for a few seconds longer he would have just cut and passed right one by.WTF

Yep. Get a lawyer. I don't know about Hawaii, but in Indiana they suspend your license for a year if caught street racing. This one is going to cost you regardless if you were or weren't racing. Sucks...

That would suck to lose my liscense. This isnt going to go over well with my unit.

I would just be like listen, this ### little 100hp yaris tried to race my beefy eclipse. He pulled away from me, clearly you were not racing and explain to the judge you were not even in vtec yo.

Get some new friends? I stopped going to cruises and car meets because cops were always there. Even though I didn't do anything wrong, I didn't want to be included if one night there was a huge bust.

The funny thing is I had stopped going for the longest time, the muscle car guys from the Marine and Navy bases would be doing the usual douche baggiery causing a ruckus and whatnot. I went out last ngiht to meet up with the DSMers I've been running into.

But like I said. I've learned my lesson... saturday night cruz... I'm over it already.

So heres an update, a good friend of mine whos mom is friends with alot fo the local police has a family lawyer who does these types of cases. So I'm gonna lawyer up, I know I'm guilty of speeding but I am not guilty of racing on the highway.

Did you ask to be shown the radar, and video of you doing 81mph? If you did not know that they had to show you the radar if you were asked I'm afraid your going to have to take the ticket with no lube.

Its just a ticket, Sucks, I know I have tons. All for BS. Get a lawyer, public defender is cheap in the states. Plead your side, get witnesses if you can.

They have to show you the radar and the tape of you being radered if asked..

So now basically deal with paying the ticket.Unless the officer brings both to court and not just his word.Your getting a ticket.

I guess I'm more so worried about losing my liscense. I'm gonna get a lawyer on monday. It would just suck to depend on my wife to take me everywhere.

Edit.The ticket didn't say anything about speeding..There was no mph in any boxes.The cop just checked stuff off.That has to be not right..

Your eye sight must not be very good bud.

The only two boxes checked are "Racing on highway" and Excessive speeding 81+MPH"

Your pretty boned, it's your word against his. Best you can hope for is them to drop one charge and deal with the other, and that's if you get a nice cop/judge.

I don't let people on my ass dictate my speed. I personally would have pulled to the shoulder if it came to it rather then get pulled for "racing" some econobox.
