Ok so I'm learning a bit about how turbos work and I'm starting to get my checklist and funding in order for future mods. Question is not so much for actual mod in the future, but for education purposes. What is the benefit difference between TT or a NA on the 4G63T? Turbo/supercharge combo, or just a single larger turbo? I've heard cost for the setup is much cheaper on the TT vs NA, but I wanna hear everyone's opinion on here. Thanks

Got it, but IS there an advantage to going TT with a DSM? Is it even a feasable mod that would gain a significant amount of HP?

No. The only reason people run TT on other cars is usually packaging....or unless they dont make a single big enough where you need 2 huge ones. 2 turbos would have to be extremely tiny to spool up and be drivable, where 1 can do the same thing.... simpler and easier.

Depends on what your needs and wants are they both have their benefits and drawbacks, a 2.4 63 head n/a will make decent hp and it may be very compt in autox and road racing as turbo engines are very limited in the classes they can run.
I dont think an n/a is no more expensive than a turbo except for initial investment on the long run they will balance out.

If there had been more RR on the 63 and 64 n/a, they would be making a lot more power.

I have had two different 420a engines; the first was a fully NA buildup, the second a FI buildup(HRC S2) and both were on the 1g neon platform, which is obviously lighter than 2g eclipses. One thing I will say about NA power is that it is lighter, I'm talking about the weight of a turbo the weight of an intercooler, the weight of a wastegate(s), charge piping etc, and I mean in the context of a 4 cylinder. In the case of my first 97 acr neon, I believe that it tipped the scales at about 2300 lbs with me in it, so 180whp is considerably more productive than in the case of stock whp in a 2800+(up to 3200 with awd)l car. Also things that an NA car can use like ITB's and half radiators improve that ratio. As far a TT goes...save that for people on unlimited budgets, or those with motors with a displacement that is higher than 2L. EDIT although if you started with a FI car then it would make little sense to go NA...just my opinion unless you have a built and stroked 2.4(2.7 is the biggest I have heard they can go). good luck and enjoy your dsm.

What?

Are you confusing twin turbo with the compound turbo setup Paul (99GSTracer) did? I depends on your criterion for failure. He's building a second setup. Not that the clutch that could hold the torque before.

And N/A 4g63 1gs make great DD's. Some high compression pistons and a good tune can make them decently quick.

I'm talking about the TT setup Dougs Dyno Power tried years ago.

I've never heard about that. Is there somewhere I can see it and read about it?

I've been playing around online and can't find much information on the process or the specs. All I can dig up is a Laser with two T25s on a 6-bolt. You may be able to call them and see what happened to it. Here's a few posts where it's mentioned.

This is a little off topic, but has anyone heard of someone trying a sequential twin turbo setup on a DSM? I've heard good things about the sequential turbo setup. That way you can have a large turbo without the lag. It would be interesting to see. I believe the Toyota Supra had that sort of setup.

I wonder if anyone has added a remote mount turbo to an eclipse yet? STS remote

mount turbo kits i think starts around 1500 and up. If i was doing a TT setup i would

look in to it. Any thoughts?

It did, and it is the first thing all the Supra guys replace. That should tell you how effective it is.
