This is a very dumb question, but will 5-7 psi blow my N/T's pistons?
Someone told me that I need to have pistons with the spoon shape to them to turbo my NT.
Do the Turbo's have pistons like this?
Thanks.

Spoon shape?

Visually, the turbo and non turbo pistons look almost identical with the exception of the compression ratio and ring lands. The non-turbo pistons are much more fragile to detonation because the ring lands are thinner and positioned closer to the crown of the piston than the turbo model.

Lots of good threads on this topic, including: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420a-turbo-conversion/141210-non-turbo-pistons-cant-take-boost.html

I don't know, my dad's dumb and argues with me all the time about this shit.
He's a know it all :beatentodeath:
Tells me I can't turbo my NT because it can't handle boost.
He means ANY BOOST.
So I use you guys to make him look like a fool :)

I ran 16-18psi on a 1G N/T 4g63 shortblock (turbo head & everything else of course) for 2 years, abused it daily and never had an issue. It's now on to it's 2nd owner and he's been abusing it daily for over 3 years now. Hope that answers your question.

I just got done rebuilding the engine in my buddy's '92 4G63 non-turbo Talon with the engine still in the car. It was a blast, and much easier than I thought it would be.

Regardless....here's a pic with the head off. Looks alot like a turbo engine, doesn't it? No "spoon shaped" pistons in this block!

How do you even make a shortblock?
And yes, that does answer my question.. Unless it was a 6 bolt. Then that would be a given.
@ jusmx
How long did that incar build take?

Would've been 3 nights if my buddy didn't lose one of the rod cap nuts during the cleanup process.

It took about 5 good evenings from start to finish. The cleanup was the most time-consuming part....that, and stripping down all the parts from one head, cleaning them, and moving them to another head.

A broken valve guide prompted the rebuild:

Shortblock consists of the lower portion of the engine from the oil pan to the top of the block and everything in between. I reused my turbo cylinder head and everything else (exh. mani, intake, etc.).
