mysterious arc at the coil

so we was messing around with my brothers talon and we were pulling plug wires off while the car was running and 4,3,2 were fine but when we pulled the plug wire off #1 and there was a mysterious arc only at the #1 coil. so we put the wire back on and the arc goes away. im pretty stumped. any suggestions??

the wires were taken off the plug not the coil

Spark leakage...redo the test in the dark and be amazed. Probably just a bad wire.

well if thats the case ngk sucks ass. because we got them like 2 weeks ago so they "shouldnt" be bad

NGK wires are awesome, and there's nothing mysterious about the arcing at the coil when you pull a wire off; where the hell else do you expect the spark to go?

Ps. They're probably bad after you do that to them.

Weak coils maybe, or just too much of an air gap on the others, or you just don't see it.

the coil its comin from is brand new because the old one wasnt producing the best spark and it wasnt consistant. and its still doing it

These coils are super bad ass from the factory. What you're discribing sounds pretty normal. What is the issue with the car?

Well my car doesn't do it at all. He's havin a problem with the car sputtering past 10psi but it was never like that before. If he puts it half throttle it's fine but once he goes past that it's all downhill from there. It's getting enough fuel and it's for sure sparking now and it has good compression.

Did you boost leak test it, and close the plug gap a bit?

Boost leak test,check plugs, and check ignition timing!

The first thing we did was a blt. We checked every possible place that could leak. At first we found the j pipe was leaking because there was no gasket. Then it was just a couple vacuum lines that was leaking so we replaced all the lines and there was no more leaks but it still runs like shit. The plugs looked good and the ignition timing seems to be alright.

Was this a visual inspection or did you actually pressurize the system? How many psi did you pressurize it to?

Pressurized it to 30psi and everything held

#1 is sometimes a pain in the ass to get into the coil all the way. Id say you dont have this one plugged in properly. Take it off at the coil. Slide the boot back about an inch so you can grab the wire just behind the metal contact and jam it in til she clicks into place and then slide the boot onto the coil. Make sense?
