So, I went to the track last Friday and it was really only my first time going WOT with the car. On my first run I noticed that in 3rd gear, when I would punch it down to the floor, the rpm's would shoot up really quick but I wasn't going any faster. So, I got off it real quick and then got right back on it. What was weird though was I think I was still holding boost. When I got off it and then got right back on it, the clutch then grabbed and I started to pull again.

Whats weird though is this is only happening on WOT runs towards 3rd and 4th gears. And I am still able to build boost. And also, it is only happening towards the uppper rpm's.

If my clutch is really slipping would I still be able to build boost, like I have been? Also, would a slipping clutch stop if I got off the throttle and then get right back on it, like it did on that one run? And I was planning on going to the track again this weekend, would it be a bad idea to go and race again?

P.S.= the previous owner used to autocross this car, so I am sure that the clutch has some wear and tear on it. But, the car only has 55,000 original miles so, I would think it would still be good for a few more miles.

ahah when I had my n/t when I was 16 I thought the car was fast enough to spin the tires in 5th when it was raining. Little did I know I was just toasting my clutch

Ha ha, i did the same thing except once i got into 5th on the freeway i realized i wasn't spinning. My clutch got so bad when i pushed it in, it stuck to the floor and i had to pull it off with my hand. Turns out i had completely destroyed my clutch, and cracked my flywheel. 1300 dollars later i'm good to go.

*I was at 97k miles

Also if you plan to AX or do any kind of technical driving, the lightweight flywheel is handy when you need to downshift and rev-match a lot faster. And you adapt quickly if you DD with it.

Thanks a lot that would be great. I guess for $50 MORE you can get the Act flywheel compared to the Fidanza. I am willing to "re-teach" myself for $50 just because of money situations at the moment, so I am going to go with the Fidanza flywheel. Thanks for all the help

Just get the fidanza and be done with it, I garantee you that you will be used to it within a week tops, and it will feel like it was suppose to be that way. Besides im sure the act flywheels difference is so unsiginificant compared to the fidanza as far as difficulty that it wouldnt be worth the few extra lbs and more money just because you feel like it possibly might be slightly harder to drive... Come on think about it.
Im speaking with 4 months of experience behind this fidanza and I have no issues.
I put more effort in pushing this damn act 2600 to the floor then thinking about how to slip out the clutch for smooth engagement...

My clutch started slipping like mad when I was running this fox body! I had 2 cars on the guy in 1st gear... but then going into second the rpms shot up and he caught up and blew by me. I was pissed. Ever since my clutch has been slipping like crazy and I just sent it to the shop to get a Centerforce Stage 2 Dual Friction put in. My frined has one in his Talon and I absolutely love it! 90% increase in clamp force with a damn near stock clutch pedal. Nice clutch for a good price.
Here is the site I got mine from.

Good luck on your decision.
boost it easy!

new clutch . take your flywheel to the machine shop if it is not looking is best maybe get it resurface ? and while your at it if you havent done it yet drop a lsd insert

should of read all the threat ^^ if you dont get a new flywheel^^^ . looks like you dont have many "go fast mods" i heard that you can keep the stock clutch untill like 300ish hp whats the big rush on those mods right now?

Ok, so I got my car dyno'd a few weeks ago. The guy said I was slipping in every gear. I dont think that it is, but how do you tell? When I hit WOT in 2nd gear sometimes it feels like the boost is just gonna shoot through the roof. Like it hits the 15PSI max, and then keeps going? Also I have a really spongy pedal sometimes, and sometimes its hard like it used to be. The shop recommended a SouthBend clutch, and he would install it and everything for a little over $700. My stock clutch for my old mitsu RS cost almost 800. (Different place) I could have my buddy do it for the price of the clutch and a 24 pack of mich golden, but would a shop be able to do it more accuratly?

Edit:
I have an ACT 2100 with like 5k miles on it (supposedly) The kid I bought it from was a hack so I wouldnt be suprised if he lied about it.
