 well ive been working on my ride's head for nothing!!i found engine deposits in my head and found out it was the motor!!!anyways i checked out a place called soko and i found a 4g63 engine with 30000 miles and it seems in good condition as i went and checked it out. so i bought a new engine for 1735 and now im working to get it in!!!

also what should i do to the engine while its out??first i know im getting new clutch, wheel, fuel injectors, but what else should i look into getting done while the motor is out?? i was thinkning since im gonna paint it anyways should i get it painted with the motor out as that way i can even paint the engine bay too!!

also im looking for some type of hose kit(not hose as in changing rubber to metal) but as in for looks like putting blue hoses or what not i know this isnt a performance thing but im just getting my car ready to "look good" too. i already have bought a Buschur Racing downpipe and an Injen Intake recirculated of course and i dont know which Blow off valve to get if any(love that turbo sound)anyways once its done ill be posting pics of it but for now can you guys answer and help me out!!! let Project Dsm begin!! :dsm:

you could get forged stuff for internals. like rods, pistons, studs, etc. personally, i dont like the same color hose stuff, but there are kits around, ive seen them. dont remember where at, but ill try to find it. with BOV, you should get like a GReddy Type-S or HKS SSQV or something, but remember to recirculate it! if you wanted to go crazy, you could also have ur engine bored over like .20 or something....but that would burn holes in ur pocket :) just remember, try not to get stuff that raises your compression cuz 13:1 compression with turbo = bad news ...LOL hope that helped

The may say it has "30,000" but you never know. I would do a timing belt job and Balance Shaft eliminator kit. If you want to paint the car, especially a different color now would be the time to do it (with the motor out). Just remember to paint in all the door jambs and around the hatch. Nothing worse than opening a door and seeing a different color. :barf: Good luck and keep us updated. :thumb:

I agree with the previous two posters - eliminate the balance shafts and install a new timing belt. Unless you're planning on making over 500HP I wouldn't waste my money on forged internals - lots of people have them that will never take advantage of them.
What I would do is flip the motor over, drop the oil pan, and check out my rod/main bearings. Plastigauge everything to make sure they're still in spec, and check crank endplay while I was in there just to make sure.
Even if it is truly a 30,000 mile engine (which is highly doubtful, JDM dealers are real shady about that sorta thing), there's no guarantee it hasn't had the piss beaten out of it.

Good luck, keep us posted.

 ok dont flame me as i am LEARNING as i go here but what would eliminating the Balance shafts do??what are the balance shafts??also i was wondering what material is the head gasket made out of? iwas thinking of buying a metal one in?is that a good idea?thanks for the feedback earlier i hope to learn from this site even more ill post some pics that i got from my phone on this site of the engine. they are not very clear but just to look at you know!?

Balance shafts balance out the motor vibrations but if that balance shaft belt snaps ur probably in for some serious repairs (head rebuild) eliminating the balance shafts takes that of ur conciouse sorta and takes off a couple pounds off the rotating assembly. the stock head gasket isnt the best might as well change it because its so much easier to do it now then later. metal headgaskets are only like a 100 bucks and they can hold more boost.

yes the metal hg's can hold more boost, that is if you can get them to seal. the cometec and hks's dont really seem to have too many problems but any of the performance shops that actually know anything about dsm's will tell you to avoid the mitsu mls. they have about a 50/50 chance of sealing. the stocker or even a felpro will hold anything most people throw at em. and since your still running a 7bolt your more likely to get c.w. than blow a headgasket

LOL! well thanks for the feedback guys i guess im probably gonna go ahead and get the metal head gasket, probably from HKS or Felpro, but what about greddy? they make one for the 4g63 but on their site it says for the EVO, will that work on my 4g63?? the reason i ask is cause i have a greddy exhaust and they say to try and stick to the same company as much as you can so(i know even tho i want an Injen Intake and Buschur Downpipe, i am currently debating on which turbo kit im gonna get, im aiming for the Greddy but have been hearing about the EVO 3 turbo, i think thats the one, but if there is no difference in performance other than price im going for the greddy any info on this will help)if the greddy gasket works let me know.

well i'm glad this is such a good community to find answers on, also i guess ill be in the tech articles to learn how to "eliminate the balance shafts" LOL well i ll keep you guys posted on whats going but continue the feedback as i will no doubt have many more questions!! :dsm:

The kit comes with instructions. It'll take ya a day with the motor out of the car already. Just make sure you've got a Chilton's, or Hayne's handy. Post away :thumb:

I bought a motor that had oil in the coolant and turns out the mls was leaking...they are hard to seal unless you get the head and block to a perfect finish. So to avoid headaches, i highly recommend a stock headgasket with arps. Balance shafts eliminating is a good idea along with new timing belt and tensioner.

:barf: ok i was wondering, and this question is for those people in my general area, which paint shop would be the best place to take my car too?? i want a very good job and am willing to pay for it but i dont know how i would go about finding feedback on wheter or not that shop is good???help me out please!!!!

ROFL just wanted to update this lil thread of mine! i bought a motor and the car should be running within these next two weeks, if not this weekend!!!!FINALLY!!!!anyways i have some BEFORE pictures ready so when i clean it up a bit,(paint, new kit) ill send em in.

Also i bought new ACT Flywheel, clutch so tranny should be pretty stable for the minor mods im about to put in within the months to come(damn checks dont come fast enough). My next goal is to just get a new kit(i know tuners dont need kits but i cracked my front bumper,Please dont ask how LOL, so might as well get i want now) and get the damn thing painted BEFORE i drive it around.

Anyways after that im gonna go ahead and follow the tuning guide they have, as close as i can. First things i want to get are Injen Intake(for the stock BOV, Recirculating FTW!!) and the Greddy Type S BOV(<--any better recommendations would be nice, but im sticking with greddy so keep the recommendations greddy) and a Buschur Racing 2.5" downpipe.

After or around the same time, of those mods im gonna be getting my stereo up to par. Then ill think about getting Greddy Turbo and Intercooler Kits,etc..

ANyways just wanted to get people up to par with my Project and i hope to get more positive feedback on me lil ol 4g63!! Also what do you think, im not gonna show you guys, but what do you guys of me putting a "custom" DSM symbol thingy vinyl/sticker thing? (about the size of the lil window on the rear window on the back seats) im not too big on stickers me self but i think that would be cool, especially the way i "designed"it looks sic!

Ok this bi*** is running and running NICE!! I have an ACT Flywheel/Clutch, and Buschur Racing High Flow 2.5" Catalytic Converter into a Full Greddy Exhaust SP 2.5". Ok now my mechanic told me i was smoking because my cat had SO much oil in it which it did, it literally spilt when we turned it to its side. He said it would be reduced once i get the new cat which i have got and put on meself. Still smokes BUT when i was looking at the downpipe it was BLACK. Now what i want to know is two things.

1) Is it smoking because of all the oil residue that has been sitting (my car was sitting about 2 years) and if not what is the problem.

2) If it is the smoking because of oil residue what can i do to clean/flush our my pipes with? That means ALL my pipes from the Turbo all the way back i understand that but WHAT would i use to clean it out with? Engine Degreaser? Tried it i think, tho i can try again, my pops says use gasoline but im not too kean on that idea.

Please guys help me out this is the only thing keeping me from getting my car going now, after this its smooth sailing! My future upgrades after this hurdle are Injen Intake for Stock BoV to recirculate with a Greddy Type S BoV, then finish off the exhaust systme with Buschur Racing O2 Housing and Buschur Racing Downpipe. why not wait for that? Because i need my car for work!!so i need to fix this smoke problem help!!

Search for a thread called "seafoam works" and try what those guys are doing. It may or may not help, but worth a shot.

bump please i need to know this the answer to this question

Do not do that. Bumping WILL get your thread closed, and you don't want that. As far as your exhaust pipe being black on the inside, that's normal.
