I finally found a super-rare gem that I have been looking to get for many years.

I picked up a JDM RHD 1985 Mazda RX-7 Turbo earlier this week!

It is a 12A turbo, mild street port setup with some custom bolt-on's, and a bigger turbo. The stock Hitachi turbo was modified for a Garrett GT30 compressor wheel, along with changed from a non-intercooled blow-through setup to a FMIC/bigger blow-through hat/bigger carburetor. It also has some nice suspension parts and is insanely clean. All original interior and exterior.

I got it off of http://www.kaizousha.com/

It only cost me a few grand, plus shipping/paperwork.

Here's a couple pics of it!

I am going to change the hubs and wheels to a killer set of old-school Konig Burners on a turbo-II hub conversion with Turbo-II front/rear brakes. I got it with the car.

It already has the LSD rear end and the Turbo version of the SA22 FB RX-7 (mine) already has the stronger gearset and case with taller 1st/2nd/3rd/5th gears and a Turbo-II clutch/flywheel.

The undercarriage looks brand new. It is unbelievably clean!

Yeah, I never cared for the porno red interior, but I bought this one because it almost matched my car interior and exterior! My old one had the porno red leather and was a 1985 GSL 12A N/A that I sold off in 2006 to fund my broken transmissions for the DSM.

These 12A turbos are insanely rare. This one came stock with around 165HP/160TQ and is now in the 220HP range. I still need to get it on the dyno after I take care of some details on it.

The car has a 79-80 style oil cooler on it currently that is leaking a bit, and I am going to swap it out for a nice Mocal oil cooler and -10AN lines. It also needs a fresh set of NGK plug wires and plugs. The car came with a set of CHAMPION plugs in it! WTF!!! The setup should be on NGK BUR9EV primaries and BUR7EV secondaries.

The fuel pump and filter looks to be older units so I want to go through it and do some touch-ups on it first.

So...is this car to trump your GSX on the strip eventually? Or are you done with all that?

I miss Road America (which is relatively in my back yard). That is what I did with my old RX-7 including AutoX. When I picked up my Eclipse in 2001 as my winter car, I also used that for AutoX but it simply couldn't handle the way I wanted to for road race unless I did ALOT of work to it. LOL.

Now look at it....it turned into a drag racing monster.

I want this car to be something I miss -- a quick car that looks really nice and is fun to drive on the street. Something I can't say my Eclipse has done for the last 3-4 years reliably. Hence the reason it was sold. If I kept it, I was going to pull the motor, throw in steel rods, and downgrade the turbo back to a GT4088R and cut the cage out.

I can't remember your "social status," but I think that you'll find that a RHD RX7 is a bit more of a chick-magnet than a DSM. Plus, a majority of women are right-handed, if you get my meaning. tee hee

I think that with the extra money I will have left over from the Eclipse being sold, I am going to build a road race car that is street legal. If it is anything that "trumps my eclipse", it will be either something like /J's 4G63 SL-R, or a 20B turbo Rotary powered, sequential shifted 6-speed RWD SL-C kit car.

I just saw that SL-C car on Gearz TV last week. Awesome car, and I would love to build something like that.

LOL, thanks.

Coming from someone who has a N/T 1G. Don't insult my intelligence because I was smart enough to get out of the game.

Bigger and better things.... I didn't say it was going to be my only purchase. I am strongly pointing towards doing an ultralight kit car with a fun motor in a RWD setup.

Tim your going to love that rx7, rotarys are fun I still miss my old Mazda rx8 my close friend owns fd3 rx7 93 they so nice to drive, if I was you when you build your next car do a 20b those engines are monsters.

Thanks!

I really enjoyed my last one, and have wanted one like this exact one for over 5 years. I was kicking myself when I sold my old one, but again, the time was right and I had a cash offer I couldn't refuse for several thousand dollars more than I had invested in it, so it went to another rotary enthusiast.

You welcome tim, finally someone agrees with me on rotarys. Haha I love rotarys man I love how the wankel engine sounds, on those high rpms they have, but all I can say Tim is good luck on your clean Mazda rx7, but you still working on dsm transmissions right because I still need to send mine to you for a rebuild.

i just ment i'd much rather have an awsome race car than an old carb'd rotary.

what motors out htere are as fun as a 4G63 anyway? for yoru kit car?

Well, it would either be a 2.0L turbo 4G63, or I would go with a single turbo 20B or do a 4-Rotor setup.

Either way, they would rev high, and make a SHITLOAD of power.

If I go the other direction, I have had my eyes on a 93-95 FD3S RX-7 chassis to do a 7.0L LS7 engine with a GT4708R single turbo setup with a powerglide or a modified MVE (Mid Valley Engineering) Nascar 4-speed dogbox on a tubbed chassis with a Strange Engineering PRF-305 rear end. This would be a drag car of course.

id stick with teh 4g63. rotaries have to many problems. the way i see it peeps would put rotaries in other cars if they were real good.

Ive NEVER heard or seen Tims car have one thing wrong with the engine.. Just his transmission and rear diff!! :p Perhaps you should actaully look at his profile before you assume he has a junk running DSM.. Just saying..

Tim, Ill be sad I wont get to drool over your car this year at the shootout!

I do got to say that the Rx7 does look pretty nice, Id love to find pretty much ANY rhd car! Still never driven one. D: But good luck to you either way! Another SL-r around would be pretty sick though!!

I am most definitely working on DSM's still, that is my business. Just like Shep still works on DSM transmissions though he drives a Skyline.

I think they're April fools jokes LOL.

dude maybe u shoudl reread my post. i said rotraies have alot of problems.

Nice looking RX.

So Tim, how long do you think it'll be before the GSX gets turned into scrap by that guy you sold it to?

I know you're frustrated with all the BS lately but I still can't believe you did that. You could've parted it out for double what he paid you.

I know I could have gotten double for it if I parted it out, but I didn't want to deal with it anymore and wanted it to leave my place turnkey.

There has been a lot of been BS lately. It has more than pissed me off. This decision was inevitable, it was simply a matter of time. There was a cash offer on the car, I took a downpayment. I have another offer on it if this guy falls through. The other guy Randy has been wanting it for a while and he knew me from Appleton way back in the day, he now lives in SW New Mexico and said he will fly in to get it otherwise for the same asking price. Randy owned a GVR4 that was heavily modified back in 2002-2004 and knows his way around a DSM.
