My new dsm....just a couple of issues

I just bought a 97 gsx with a 6 bolt swap. It has a CEL because of the 6 bolt swap, I believe its because of different firing order, but am not sure. I'd like to get rid of that sometime. Also the fuel gauge doesn't work, it just stays pegged at 1/4 of a tank. When I go WOT it smells a bit like oil, the dipstick pops up from time to time, so I'm assuming thats the PCV, right? There's also a rattle when it gets over 3500 rpms, not really sure what it is, but might just be like exhaust rattle. Other than that its a decent car....runs great....150s across the board when I did a compression check, doesn't blow any smoke or anything. Just looking for some insight on the CEL, the fuel gauge, and wondering if I'm right to suspect the PCV. Thanks

the CEL is most likely a random misfire the best way to get that gone is dsmlink...for the fuel gauge problem check the wires by the fuel pump could be a wire knocked off or bad relay and such.

Luckily for me dsmlink is on my list of upgrades in the near future! And alright, I'll check the wires. Thanks for the input!

+1 for the dsmlink its your best bet, oh and btw since its on your upgrade list they are coming out with a ecmlink v3 lite so maybe you might be interested in that and ### another month or two before you buy it, but either way good luck with the car and hope u get it running good without any CEL's they annoy the crap out of me )

Ya he got jipped, they sold him a 3g with a gst sticker and told him its turbo.. Then they said the cel was because of the 6 bolt swap. To bad it is a v6 right

We got a guy here selling a 91 "Turbo" he hooked up a pc cooling fan little 90mm fan stuck it in the center of the stock air filter hooked it direct to the starting system and is selling it as a turbo.

+1 on dsmlink to fix the cel as well.
As for the gas needle problem, make sure you don't have a wire making false contact at the pump or your floatant isn't bad also.
And for the pcv valve, it's most likely clogged to hell, change it.

Yeah....my PCV valve should get here tomorrow....found out that the oil smell was the dumb mechanical oil pressure gauge that came installed on it was leaking and making a mess. Vibration is definately an exhaust rattle, I've driven the car enough to figure that out now. All thats left is the fuel gauge and you guys have pretty much answered that.

Couple more questions. Do these engines sorta lean down to the right (when you're facing the front of the car)? Mine seems to tilt slightly to that side, it's probably there's no 2 bolts on the back of the right side motor mount....
