well as i said im doing my first head gasket on my talon and i just have a couple questions like what brand head gasket have you bought and used i already know to put ss studs in the head for the exhaust man. and my head goes out to be machined in the morning any advice or any input you all may have let me know thanks

A stock mitsu headgasket will work wonders. If your gonna be building and running some boost, a set of arp headstuds should be on your list.

Did the original gasket blow? Make sure the head surface is smooth and isn't warped.

i have used felpro and cometic both very good gaskets in my opinion

With a cometic you have to shave off the head, since its steel in order to get a good seal.

If your profile is correct I would run a OEM Mitsu MLS and if you can afford some ARP's , if on a budget maybe just some felpro studs/gasket

my head will be shaved if its warped at all it goes in the morning to the machine shop so up on the table is cometic,fel-pro,and last but not least the fac. head gasket the head bolts your talking about the 10 10mm"even tho the book said there 8mm LOL" that hold the head to the block replace those? why

Arp headstuds+cometic. Check the block and head for flatness, if it's straight, no need to have anything milled.

not always true.. my head and block were straight and that "crapmetic" leaked oil bad!:notgood:" get atleast the head resurfaced, to take any wonders out of your conscience. ohh and felpro perma-torque or oem composite with arp's!:thumb:

crapmetic well put where do i get the fel-pro perma torque from? i used fel-pro in the past on other cars and they held up guess im gonna try them on my dsm thank you all for the help :thumb:

thanks for the link there on my list next to the arp ss exhaust studs

from my hg experiences, ive blown two multi layer steel (mls) headgaskets and both blew out within a month of installation even though my head was resurfaced both times, but after installing a stock hg, no problems at all, and im boosting 20lbs. ive read here on tuners that its best to have your head and block both resurfaced in order for an mls hg to be installed with no issues. also a stock hg with arp headstuds has been proven to hold up to 25psi time and time again

well i dropped my head off at the machine shop today to have it machined incase it warped and im having a valve job done so ill have back a like new head also i ordered a fel-pro top end gasket kit and on monday ill order arp head studs and arp exhaust studs so i think i have everything covered thanks again for all the info everyone

Sounds like a bad case of installer error.

I just blew hg on my car evo 3 16g 26lbs with felpro composite hg and arp studs...going cosmetic as far as I'm understanding and copper spraying it..my head is flat less than .001 with a very smooth finish..just my 2 cents good luck

Blow the dust off a 4 year old thread much???

ccrise 90, your head may have less than .001 warp, but what about your block? I would bet the sealing issue is on your block surface.

Even more so since the felpro 9627PT composite HG has held way more than what you are doing.

Best of luck with that MLS HG.

I used a couple of the fel-pro from advance with arp's, and I almost always blew it! I've never had the old block decked so that's what I attribute that to. I only used a Cometic composite once and NEVER had a problem with it but that's after turning boost down to 20 psi after blowing fel pro never cranked it.
I had the 2.3 and me head decked for a cometic MLS gasket with arp's and she is rock steady at 26 psi so far!
I would stick with Cometic or OEM composite unless both surfaces are decked for a MLS gasket. My brother runs his without either decked with no issues but his stuff was professionally done by Slow Boy a while back by the previous owner.

I would go with the OEM mitsu head gasket and ARP headstuds.

Isn't it common knowledge that the Head Bolts stretch once a Head Gasket is blown. In that situation you shouldn't reuse the head bolts because the length of each bolt might be different.

When I first assembled my engine, I used a Felpro headgasket with ARP head studs; within 50 miles of driving it and one launch, my head lifted between every single cylinder (I was running 25psi on a EVO3 16g. After I bought a new head, I used a MLS metal head gasket and haven't looked back since. Then again, my friend just ran a 10.5 on an OEM headgasket with ARP head studs. I personally will stick with my metal head gasket.

may be a stupid question, but i generally hear speak about HG and studs combination just mentioning psi and how much it held without mentioning the turbo. i know different turbos move different amounts of air, so my question is the psi most important factor? example if i run 20psi on a 16g would i be same running 20psi on a 20g?.

Do not use a COMETIC. I blew one, and I've seen countless people have sealing issues with them. The Rotary/4G63/GTR/Subaru shop I worked for refuses to install cometic headgaskets anymore.
