i started hearing a noise everytime i pushed the clutch in and immediately thought it was the throwout bearing because i didnt use a mitsu one. after going and buying a new one from mistu i come home and pull the tranny out only to find the throwout bearing is in perfect shape. but when i look at the clutch i see this :notgood:

i just put in an act 2600 clutch and street disc and it engages almost as smooth as stock with just a stiffer pedal feel but you can get used to it if ## not a ####y. I also put it a cheap ebay chromolly flywheel that looks identical to the act one. all works great. only has a VERY small amount of chatter if you take off without giving it any gas. all companies are going to have a few bad eggs. its just act makes WAY more clutches than anyone else so they have a few more problems... what do you want perfection? its not possible. assuming you installed it right sometimes its not a manufacturing defect. i work at an auto parts store and its always the same people bringing back products "defective" maybe its not the product maybe its the person installing it?

Such good advice if only I had relized I was a ####y. Sounds like the thread should be closed right there. I guess all my hours in the gym are in vain. Thanks rob88.:thumb::laser:

That's were mine started then it worked it's way to the floor. Changed shims on fork changed extension rod tried everything never could get it anywhere but on the floor. When I changed over to Competition clutch I put everything back stock and it worked great.:laser:

no one here is trying to hurt anyones feelings. were simply letting others know of the problems we have had with a certin product.........just make sure you break yours in right ....

LOL....... I was joking... I dont care what so ever, I already bought it and am sure I will be happy with it, because I dont drive my car as hard as most people do, maybe the odd time I do i'll admit.... LOL..... As for letting other people know of the problems with productss, thats one of the reasons I come to the forums is to check stuff like that out...:thumb: Also whats the best way to break in a clutch.... Just going easy on it for a while and no hard boosting...?. Not like I can go too hard anywho im pretty stock, LOL...

My experience^ ill never buy another one!

You messed up installing this. If you repeat the error, it will happen every time.

When the transmission goes in, if the shaft is not perfectly square you can and often will bend the hub on the friction disc. This will cause run-out as it spins and eventual failure from fatigue.

The people ACT are not idiots, they can tell the difference between an installation error and a failure from defect. The original poster will most likely get his clutch replaced under warranty.

I knew you were joking! the best way i've always known to break in a clutch was to drive it around town stop and go traffic is best so that you can heat it up and cool it off as much as possable, dont let it boost hard untill you've put about 500 miles on it and you should be good.... you dont have to drive it around like grandma but try to keep it from slipping. make sure if you did'nt buy a new fly wheel that you have your old on resurfaced so that it is perfectly smooth.. the actual "break in" is so that you can smooth out the fiberous surface of the clutch disk and make it perfectly smooth. smooth disk+smooth flywheel= best contact between disk and fly wheel. also the heating and cooling effect will hopefully keep your disk from warping.

Hey Lasertrash . . . What Comp. Clutch setup are you running exactly? I like the stage 4 pressure plate, however, I would like to stick with a street disc, or possibly the one you have pictured there - :talon:

Were you using one of the revised ones like this that has the spring encapsulated? The only way I could see a spring coming out of that is in a bunch of small pieces.:laser:

It's a stage 4x the plate is a 2400, you can pick your own and the disk is a sprung ceramic six. I thought about going with a 2600 but with the much more abrasive ceramic disk the pressure plate does not need to do as much work. good for leg and thrust bearings. Plus the thing puts off no dust at all, the one in the picture has a thousand miles on it, still looks pretty.:D:laser:
