My exhaust farts

i have cai and an apexi dunk it normally gargles a bit when i pat the gas as i let of the clutch but it started doing it badly,gave it a tune up and it was back to its old self

are you talking about the slight popping noise that happens after you rev it while the revs are decreasing? I have that sound and I LOVE IT

my rs does that quick fart noise, but only when i punch it and take it to red line. I love those shifts cuz their so much quicker in going from one gear to the next compared to when I let off on the gas to MAKE it shift (i hate my automatic). My friend's car does it too, and his isn't an import.

I have the Greddy Evo also... If i floor it up to like 5Krpm and then let off the gas really quick my muffler sounds like a popcorn machine... I am told by my import shop that this is 100% normal... Next time you wash your car fill your muffler up full of water and then rev it up and let off quick it really does it.. No Don't do that, that's just something I do and probably is not good for your car... If it isn't somebody clue me in before I mess up my car...

exhaust tips, or lack of them can do it, my '82 280zx pops when i shift (5spd), and when i decelerate heavily....my exhaust mod was cutting the muffler off.... i laugh at ppl who pay for mufflers...ran with just a cat gives enough backpressure and sounds cooler!

His car is running a little rich, when he lets off, the unburnt fuel goes through hot parts of the exhaust, muffler, etc, and get ignited. Causing the gargle when you let off. Can be done on all cars, and is different between car to car because of exhaust temps and how much fuel the ECU dumps.

yeah but the original question stated that it makes the noise when at full throtle or near it and it shifts in a auto without letting of the gas.if i let of the gas and step back on it before i shift it doesnt do it .

You obviously didn't understand anything I wrote.

In a 5-speed you do a pull, and right before the next gear, let off instead of shifting. That throws fuel out of the engine into the hot exhaust parts.

Now, think about it. When an auto shifts, the rev's drop back down quite a bit more than a stick. The shifts are slower in some regards as well. VERY MUCH POSSIBLE the same thing is happening here.

If you keep your car in say, 2nd gear, and do a redline pull, and not let the auto shift out of 2nd, it will do it. Watch and see.
