Hey guys, Let me start off by saying I don't know much about cars, I just know how to do the basic things. I have a couple of things going wrong with my car; Let me give you some background on the car, Its a 2g gs 420a, I bought it with greddy headers, I think greddy exhaust, but really not sure, and a k&n cold air intake, about a year ago, Its a N/T So I don't race it at all, its used as my dd.

1. As I am driving I can smell my engine burning oil practically every time I go anywhere, This has just recently started happening, in the time I have owned the car, this has never happened, oil always changed on time, I am leaking a small drop every 24 hours, it is always parked in the garage and I check for leaks every morning when I leave.
My oil is NOT milky
2. Randomly I will start to leak Anti-freeze, its leaking from the passenger side of the car, its not coming from the reservoir, almost positive it isn't a clamp, it doesn't happen all the time, maybe once a week, when it leaks, it leaks a lot, an eight month old radiator in it,but I installed it myself...Without much mechanical background, but it didn't seem to hard, and I did me some research before I did it, and I believe I did it right

3. My engine just shuts off randomly, usually when I push the clutch in, but its not limited to that, a simple let up of the clutch will start it right back up, but its still not too fun to deal with, I can also smell a lot of carbon coming through my exhaust when it stalls and I start it back up, which never smells good heh, I read up on it, I gave myself a little self diagnosis, and replaced the IAC valve, cleaned the throttle body, it still stalled out, i'm pretty sure I did the IAC job right, it wasn't too hard, I bought a gasket for the throttle body before I put it back on, i'm just stumped to what it could be now

4. While at idle if I rev my engine, a sound will happen, ill have to post a video of it tomorrow morning, the best I could describe it as is it sounds like it is trying to suck up water, but there's no water to suck up, kind of like when your at the theaters, and you ran out of soda, but you still want that little bit left in there, that sound, but when I push in the clutch, it goes away, im going to need to replace my clutch pretty soon if that has anything to do with it.

Hope I gave enough details, Any suggestions would be appreciated, I just wish I knew more information that would help narrow down the possibilities, I'm definitely learning more things every day from this site though!

1995: 16 yr old motor. Prob have bad valve guides why you're using oil.

Heater core is shot. Need to check in getting that heater core leak fixed or replaced so you won't be leaking coolant in the passenger side anymore.

The sound you're hearing is prob a gone throwout bearing..since you mention a clutch job coming up real quick, that'll ake care of that issue.

How's the timing settings, on why you smell "carbon"? I can see the problem with that cold air intake stuff messing with your A/F mixture for a NT motor. What does the spark plugs look like - normal or all coal black with soot...

Did you check the IAC adjustment setting after you did the install?

Definitely got a car with tons of fixing up to do on it.

Good luck - DSM

In addition to the list above your head gasket is probably shot. IMO it's time for an engine rebuild, if you don't want to mess with that I would suggest fixing what you can and getting rid of it. Personally I get excited everytime I get to do a rebuild but I have 4 cars so downtime isn't a problem for me.

Thanks for the quick responses! I did not check the IAC adjustment setting, I honestly have no idea how to do that, or what it should be set to, the spark plugs look nice and clean, the carbon I can only smell when I stall, so if adjusting the IAC fixes that, that would be fixed too, I have another air intake that isn't a cold one that it still happens on, I'll check up on that heater core this weekend, as well as the valves, I got the car with much work needing on it, it came with 150k miles on it, so I wanted to experience a rebuild with it and many other replacing, I bought it as a N/T Cause they are much cheaper, and I wanted this car to learn how to many basic things, I will probably get a GSX as my next car, then I will hopefully have more experience to start putting performance parts onto it, I would just have to get used to the 4g63 motor in it, and turbo of course

I somewhat disagree with the above statement only for the reason that if you are smelling the oil inside the cab, usually it means that you are burning the oil externally for the burnt smell to make it frmo the engine bay to the inside of the car. If the valve guides are really leaking, then it would go out the tail pipe after being burned and you would have the blue smoke coming from the exhaust and would most likely NOT smell it as it is expelled out behind you. Not to mention that the OP says that he is "leaking a small drop every 24 hours"

Not to say that a rebuild wouldn't hurt but you could do a compression check first to see if the engine is really near a service limit. 150K isn't really too bad as long as the motor hasn't been too abused by previous owners... But it probably has at some point.

With an engine being this old though, lots of rubber componants could be worn out and leaking air under vacuum. Similar to having a boost leak, you can test for leaks the same way by slightly pressurizing the intake, spray down everything with soapy water and listen for air leaks while looking for bubbles. I would also check your ECU for any blown driver chips or leaky caps that could effect the operation the how the car is running. Before assuming an engine needs to be rebuilt, I think there is a lot that can be done to check for other solutions first... then again, I don't know very much about the N/T cars.

Well if you need more help/advice it might be better to post here.

I wouldn't doubt at all that the person whom owned it before me mistreated it, for one he painted it yellow, And the guy seemed like the type of person who would mistreat it, I won't have any money for another week and a day, but I would love attempting to do an engine rebuild, just for the experience, I will definitely check everything else before though, 'cause if I could push it off till vacation, that would be pretty awesome, which I might do anyways, and maybe some more things that I find in that forum Shake_Zulla posted. Thanks again guys, Oh. and does anyone know how to adjust my IAC? Its been in there for acouple months now, I looked it up, and it said something about TPS, not sure what that is, haha, off to go google some terms though!
