My dsm feels really slow

well i'm pretty new to dsms and car modding in general, but i know one thing for sure and that's that this car doesnt pull nearly as hard as i was hoping it too. I dont know if there's something wrong with my car or they're just not as fast as i thought, but i'm sortev dissapointed. I used to own a 2001 SE prelude but decided i wanted AWD / turbo. The lude with it's vtec and 200hp felt alot faster than my talon. Only things ive done to my talon are boost gauge / controller / k&N / metal IC piping and im running 12 lbs of boost. I'm starting to wish i went the mr2 route which i had planned originally The talon has 60 thousand miles on it and i just did the timing belt.

You've done these mods yet what maintainence have you done? Have you done any diagnostics? Boost leak? Compression? Tune? Forgive me if you've actually done these diagnostics but there are alot that you should do. These cars are not going to be fast just by themselves, esp after 11 years. However, with the same amount of money and work along with proper maintainence, I can guarantee that your DSM will be able to stomp any Prelude or MR2.

Well man, one thing is to "feel" faster, and another thing is to "be" faster. Some cars feel slower, but they are going faster. Not all butt dynos are accurate enough.

Hondas make a lot of noise with that m4d 3rd gear v-t4k...

Did you do a compression test? If not, do it, and then post the results. Also, you have an AWD, so your top end pull compared to a Honda will be less. Ludes are heavy cars too. Also, you can make it up in the launch

Well i changed all the belts when i got the car + a new transfer case because it needed that as well. As i said, i'm pretty new to the whole modding scene and i dont really know what to check which is why i'm making this post. Right now the car is getting an out of province inspection so maybe that will tell me something.

seems as if when the turbo kicks in i should be getting more of a push, so maybe it is a boost leak. How are boost leaks fixed??

Boost leak test. Not a bad place to start. Do a search and you will be overwhelmed with info. Also fill out your profile so we can help you out more.

Do all the checks, compression, boost leak, check your timing, etc, etc, etc...and then post up the results.

HHmm...interesting, maybe jump up and down in your seat as you accelerate, that split second of weight loss on the car will be worth at least 10hp. No, seriously though, boost leak test is the first place to start as stated above. Compression test as well. As all the others said before me, a DSM will whoop azz on all the cars you quoted if tuned properly. My guess is boost leak. Check that out, and get back with us.

Your current car is garaunteed to be faster than a lude man. THAT IS if the car is in good running condition with all preventive matinence etc.. Trust me, I wasn't aware of my dsm's power until like 4 months after I got it and really got to know the car. After you start modding you won't want to go back.

Boost leak does not mean that the Turbo is leaking. It checks to make sure that you are not loosing pressure in your intake pipes etc. It depends on where the leak is, if you have one, as to how you fix it. It could be just a loose fitting, but it could be a cracked intercooler.

Like people are saying do a boost leak test, also get new spark plugs(NGK BPR6ES) and wires, i did and it worked wonders

Start out with a boost leak test and if nothing than your car could be one of the cars that don't feel fast but are. My friend has a very low 13 second dsm that feels like it is stock and doesn't seem fast but it is.

alright thanks for the advice. Turns out it was a boost leak....... from the oil line or something??? turbo not getting oil, i dont really know because i dont have the actually inspection sheet and i'm new to turbos in general. How do i go about getting this fixed / would it be hindering my performance that much??? Also i'm desperately in need of an oil change because my car had been sitting for a long time since i got it re registered so i'm thinking that is hindering performance also. How much would fixing this leak cost around?

Not completely sure, but a "Boost Leak" would be just that boost (meaning air). If it is leak in an oil line then you would have an oil leak. If it is the line that is going to the turbo, then it is not good. You are starving the turbo of oil that it needs to cool it down. Get a new oil feed line. You can order them from several of the vendors on the vendors page. If you do it yourself and this is the problem, under $50.

mmmm thanks for the sarcasm....... I'm just saying that i've driven cars with around the same stock 0-60s and this feels noticeably slower. Anyways, i changed my oil and have noticed a large oil leak comming from the turbo so i'm wondering if this is the problem and how to fix it, thanks

I was just saying there is a problem somewhere with your car, So maybe you could try to find it and fix it. As for the oil leak at the turbo, Where is it coming from? If they are and it's still leaking, You can get new crush washers for the feedline, And a new return line gasket for the oil return line, After you see if it is coming from the feed, Or drain side.

alright man thanks. I think i'm going to be replacing the T 2 small with an EVO III pretty soon so ill get rid of all the problems anyways i hope. I dont know if this is a good idea with the mods i have so far, but i think ill just keep the boost low
