My clutch started slipping all a sudden.

Hey

I've been reading through the threads here to figure out whats wrong with my car. I can't figure it out. Here is what happened: I got my car and put in a act 2100 with the OEM t/O bearing. I broke it in gently like your supposed to do, and its always nice and stiff.

Fast froward about a year and a half, 70,100 miles on the clock (put the clutch in at like 48xxx) Put the exhaust on at like 69xxx around this time i really started noticing the clutch was kinda spongy. Seemed to be dragging according to jackstransmission, my mitsu buddy said it wasn't that bad; so I haven't adjusted it again since then (possibly a serious mistake it seems).

Well two weeks ago, maybe three, anyway a while ago i was taking my friend to work early as hell in the morning- driving very normal, taking it easy really; car's engaging the gear just fine. Holding full boost in the gears and everything. Then suddenly this morning, i make a left hander, put the car into second, released the clutch to find its just slipping now. I, had just gone 70 down the interstate full boost no slip 4th gear. I was riding all day actually, up to Denver back to Cheyenne mountain area, no slip. Just me :D

So it engages all the gears fine, but the clutch won't grab them, the car just sits there like vibrating as though its almost grabbing- But not quite. I'm under the assumption that the friction material is just ate up on the disc, but could it be the hydraulics? But i figured i wouldn't be able to get into any gears, let alone all of them and the clutch sit there laughing at me and my misfortune in all its DSM deviance.

Should i just get a replacement disc and bank on resurfacing, what do you guys think? Sorry if this is convoluted but i just write this way.

thanks in advance.

Just check and make sure that you haven't closed that bleeder valve that is present on the master cylinder line. If the slave cylinder isn't self adjusting then it will prematurely slip, but it seems like you have quite a few miles on the clutch so that should've happened by now.

I'm sure I've just pooped out the clutch disc, I just didn't expect it to do it that quickly. Kinda like you said, you'd imagine that if something else had failed it would have happened by now... I'm just getting anxious to get it back on the road.

Sounds like the hydraulics are fine and can still disengage whats left of the clutch, since you can get into gear. I believe you made the proper diagnoses and that the disk is wore out from what you have described.

You will for sure need a disk, but with the heat that was built up from the slipping or if any other damage was caused from the disk, you may need the whole clutch and flywheel. Only dropping the trans and inspecting or having the parts inspected will tell you what you need to replace.

Thanks for your reassurance, i appreciate it. Found a replacement disc for $134.94 shipped so which is about $30.00 better than e-bay, the parts sniffing dog in me has awakened already. Thanks again.
