I feel like a kid opening the doors on a Christmas calender or for the other religions, lighting the candles.

Here's the story, in fall of 08 my car succumbed to rod knock. During that time I thought I had the worst of luck; after all, the previous year I replaced the turbo and beginning of the year put in a new tranny. Now this happens and I swear it was a curse from Gold's Gym.
I got a membership and the first renewal(monthly) my turbo dies. 2 months later I renew again after wasting a whole months membership. Everything is fine for that month. I renew again and BAM! my tranny goes out on me:ohdamn:. So here I am with my car down again after a renewal. I finally get it all back together after 2 months and got a Jacks state 2 tranny that comes with a 1 year/unlimited mile warranty. I was so stoked to be riding around again. Next month comes around and I decide to go all out with my membership and get a year. WHAT WAS I THINKING! 2 weeks later :dun dun dun: rod knock :banghead::notgood:. This leads us to the main story.

I have rod knock and have no idea what to do at this point. I figured that once I can find a mechanic, I'll get the engine built up also. After some realization that there aren't many shops around that will put aftermarket parts in vehicles I decided to go cheap :nono:...

There was this new guy at work that I started chatting to and found out he has a 1g talon and told me all about it and how his buddy rebuilt his engine. Turns out that his buddies brother also works at my job too. I start chatting with both of them and after a few weeks talk to the guy and get things rolling. After beating around the bush I end up getting my car down there and I was stupid, I attempted to drive it with rod knock to a destination which was 1 1/2 hrs away. Obviously, the car completely died on me on the highway.

AAA comes around and I get out of the car and go to shake his hand and well, getting out I shut the door on my finger . We get down to the destination and drop off my car. I give him my parts that I had at the time but still needed some more. Time goes on and I order parts to give to his brother who then gives them to him. I wasn't going to attempt to get rides out there all the time to drop something off and then leave. To make things worse, he wasn't even a mechanic, he's a garbage man who just has knowledge rebuilding a few 4g63t engines. I could never get a hold of him because of his hours so for most of the time I was clueless about what was going on. (Topline rebuild BTW)

I waited and waited for shit to get done. Got phone calls here and there, saw the bearing that went out, gave him more parts to put on etc. After 3 months if not a little longer I finally get my car back and it is now Jan. 09. When I picked it up, he told me he ended up breaking my speed sensor by accident and would go pick a new one up for me and give me the rest of my parts when he comes by to fix the sensor. I paid him what I owed him which was $400 and then another $100 when he drops off my stuff and fixes the part. I should have trusted my instincts and demanded to get the parts then and there. I waited and kept calling only to not get call backs and eventually having my number blocked from his phone WTF.

I am so pissed at this point it's not funny. He still had my heat shield, battery tie down, evo3 o2 housing, act 2600 and pressure plate. I talked with his brother only to get crude remarks and lies saying I still owe him $1000 and shit like that. Let me back up. After getting the car not only was the sensor broke, but I still had a massive oil leak which was fixed by the new shop (VC gasket) and after a week of driving it, I HAD ROD KNOCK AGAIN :banghead::banghead:

This just sent me overboard and I was getting all the paperwork together to sue his ass. I decided to cut my losses seeing as there were 5 of us when I made the payment and the other 4 were their friends. Besides as much as the parts cost, I would have had court fees and such and there were no contracts made other than verbal.

So more present day now, I am off to find a new place to get the engine done; a real shop this time. I find one and I will leave them unnamed for here (nothing bad). They have already fixed my car for the oil leak and when back in for the new rod knock.

I decided to get a new engine this time which would be a JDM (I know, all domestic) so it would take some time to get the engine here. I wait for a few months after being told it would be done by a certain time only to hear that the delivery guy with your engine got in an accident on the way up :ohdamn:. Go and order a new one that is now discounted and finally received it 3 months later which would be June 09 now. Everything is good on that engine.

On the removal part from my car, I'm missing bolts, sensors not plugged in, a seal is leaking on my NEW tranny, front axle is bad and some other small shit all from that previous jackass.

Anyhow, everything is all back in the car now and almost ready to go. I had ARP turbo bolts in on the old setup and guess what, one of them snapped WTF so I needed new ones of those. All the new stuff got installed, MLS head gasket, ported exhaust mani, ported RVR IM, 1g n/t TB, a report on my turbo due to MASSIVE creep (which he said isn't there anymore), WB bung installed on down pipe, fixed my dp flange so it won't leak (homemade), fixed my IC piping since it wasn't a correct fit from the start, replaced the missing bolts, got myself a new battery tie down and heat shield, new powder coated VC, ARP head studs, BS eliminated, revised lifters and all the matience stuff done.

I'm so excited I just got a call today and it should be ready for pick up on Friday :pray::pray: I've waited for so long to get my car back. It's been almost a year and she is ready to roar. I have an almost complete set of black interior to install (just missing driver door and I'll dye my front seats), LC-1 wideband and have link on the way next week. So as of now, I am no longer a member of Gold's, curse or not, I have a cheaper place to goto that has a pool also.

If you took the time to read this :thumb::hellyeah: thank you. I hope I didn't forget anything LOL
I miss my Talon
---------------------------------------------------------------

I got the car back from the garage and couldn't have been any happier. It was the best day in car history. I drove it all day that I was able to and for the following few days, I proceded to do some maintence on the interior and exterior. Decided to clean out the hatch area and found a lot of sand by the spare tire but that got cleaned out, as well as about 30 coke caps (my coke rewards). Cleaned out the rear drains that were clogged up with dead bugs and such.

Fixed the annoying problem of the interior lights not always turning on when the door opened. Took out both driver and passenger side switches, took them apart and cleaned the contacts of all the corrosion. Used some dielectric grease and put them back together and installed. Works perfect now and saved I suppose $20 from the junk yard.

Also put in most of the black interior I aquired. All of the rear is black and the passenger door. Still looking for driver door and I didn't have time to do the dash yet. Taking off the rear seat, I noticed a bunch of squareish foam pieces and under the passenger seat was a "nest" of thread insulation. Further inspection revealed I had a resident living in my car while at the garage. Makes sense, a mouse in a Talon. I wasn't all that concerned as it is all out of view parts. I was more concerned if it got to any wires which it did not.

Well, after a few great days of driving I noticed the RPMs would drop when I press in the clutch. Not good and it was consistantly doing it too. By the end of the week I couldn't idle and would stall, metal on metal screeching sounds. Not anything you want to hear especially after a "new" motor. I take it to the shop and confirm it...crank walk. I'm pissed and still have warranty on the motor so now I have to wait some more to get another motor in.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Decided to waste my money that I had on the old motor and go and do a rebuild. I coudn't afford the time to sit and wait for another motor that has no guarentee on it's life and I bit the bullet to find a 6 bolt block.

So it came down to the point where I'm at now. I found a 6 bolt block with crank for $100 about a month and a half ago. Needless to say, I picked it up and took it to my mechanic. This past Monday, the block was dropped off to get machined to fit in my new Mahle .02 over pistons with ceramic coated tops, Eagle rods with MAPerformance thermal coating. That should be done *hopefully* by Christmas.

Also in my buying spree to get my car on the road I went with a Kiggly main girdle, L19 headstuds, 1g CAS and harness from RRE. OEM MLS HG, topline water pump, OEM timing kit, BS removed and OEM oil pump. I also ported out the relief valve on the 2nd OFH. Yes, the 2nd OFH as the first one was done and when I went to bolt it back together, I cracked the housing

So when it's all done, I am really praying that nothing else will go wrong and that this build will be the last I need to do. Down the road I will build up the head, but for now, just the block. I did get the valve seals replaced though as extra insurance with new Vittons.

For now, I wait more and soon enough I'll be :rocks::hellyeah::D
----------------------------------------------------------------

Well it seems you guys want an update, well at least one of yous do. I'm still at the same place as I was last time. 2 Days until Christmas and still no word on the shop. I kinda figured it wouldn't be until after but seriosuly, 2 weeks of waiting and hoping for nothing. Oh well though, right? It's always the same line, "shouldn't be too much longer" and hopefully it isn't. I'll give an update on this once I hear word and when I do, I'll try to get some pictures of the engine. If they still have any of the parts sitting out before installation, I'll take some shots of them too.

I did go and buy a new boost gauge. Not because my current one is bad, but because it does not read near enough boost I'll be running in the future. When I first bought it, I thought that I wouldn't run more than 20psi. HAHA I thought wrong, I just purchaced the Autometer Cobalt gauge -30inHg - 45psi and should be the last gauge I need. I'm also deciding to start sourcing out my exhaust parts for the HX40 and possibly get that thrown on sooner. It's hard as I was recently fired from my job on 12/13/09 after over 4 years of employment. But hey, even through the rough, I won't seperate from the car and I'll still be here.

More to come...

good to hear that you got most of that interior done. if you need anything, p'm me. joe

Man what a story. I feel for you. Going through similer issues. I really hope i don't end up in the same boat a you did so many times. Keep us updated!

I wish I had written a blog about my build. i didnt have as much bad luck as you did, but close LOL. it seemed pretty sudden to get crankwalk on that new motor too. best luck on your build tho man!

For the crankwalk issue, Im almost positive they didnt polish or maybe even "cut" the crank since it was probably needed...

Good luck on it. Ive never heard anybody had such bad luck. This is why I like to do all work myself since I can be as meticulous as I want.

:D

The motor that walked was a used motor that got shipped in. It was checked out fine at time of shipping. Must have been a 95/96 motor LOL.

I had something similar happen...I bought the car and 6 days later spun a rod bearing...so I had a "certified mechanic friend" rebuild my motor with wiseco pistons, eagle rods, arp studs, bored .02 over and 2 days later.....boom! Shot a wrist pin right out the bottom of the oil pan. New motor after that. Long story short, I owned my car for 2 and a half years before I got a total drive time in of more than a week.

I feel your pain 92GSX. Your engine problem is worse than mine though. 2 major car stopping problems right away. You'll have to admit, those few days of driving after getting the car back was the best time every though.

hell yeah it is, i got my running today and driving for the first time in 5 months its the best christmas gift i could ask for

Lucky, lucky man Wicked. Enjoy the gift, just don't wreck LOL.

I feel your pain first it was the transmission then it was the head gasket followed by the transmission again along with low oil pressure. Owned 1.5 years and only 600k of driving.
